Then one night the class met with one dream in mind and only one desire in their hearts. We silently watched the procession of girls and boys enter the school auditorium dressed in caps and gowns and thought with hopeful hearts of the time when we would be doing the same as they. Mr. Baxter brought us quickly back to the present by giving us our Junior High School diplomas. The following September we entered Senior High School with high spirits. Most of us will recall many of the nights of the first year in senior high spent writing themes for talking and for chewing gum. In some ways our class didn't grow up fast. The next year was spent with one constant reminder facing us--we were understudies go the seniors. The year saw many joyous events, as well as monotonous ones. Among the latter were nights spent burning mid-night oil to acheive a passing grade in book- keeping and English. Just ask the teachers! However, one really delightful event took place the night we assembled in the school lunchroom. Soft lights and glittering stars cast many reflections of color on a gay scene of girls in lovely evening dresses and handsome boys equally well-dressed. This, as you may have guessed already, was the Junior-Senior Banquet. At last we found the long sought, sometimes desparingly sought, title of Senior bes- towed upon us A number of students gained unusual distinction during the year. Cotton- wood's Good Citizenship Girl who was also Houstor County's representative was Judy Windsor Virginia Sellers and Judy Windsor gained distinction by tying for valedictorian while Ruth Franklin and Lonell McCall tied for salutatorian Robert Strickland won the football trophy and onnell McCall won second place in the county American Legion oratorical contest Now graduation brings to an end one of the important chapters that shall ever be written in our lives so we close the book of our happy High School years sing Senior typing class takes a speed test 14 . , - 1 ' Y . , . . . , A-J Q . Judy Windsor wills her position as class attorney to any deserving and long-suffering senior. This includes the thankless task of helping some stingy seniors find something that they are willing away. The band members do bequeath all of their good times, their concerts, and the sleepless nights at band camp to the band members who follow them. Sue Meadows is working in Washington D. C. Glenda Skipper is in Africa with her husband on a big game hunt. Finally our little chat ended and we had to part and go our separate ways again. My students and I returned to our hotel rooms. As I again sat alone in the room I heard a knock on the door. I opened it and my little pug-nosed girl stuck her head in and sighed, Gee, wasn't he just simply marvelous. Oh! Oh! Understanding, I smiled and pinched her cheek. Then she was gone. I turned toward my bed. All my friends were happy. Sleep would be peaceful.
