Of our l9Sh graduating class only seven began in the first grade. Miss Roberts, our teacher read the roll call something like this: Clifford Anderson, Ruth Ann Barck, Donald Driessen, Clifford Hanson, Dorothy Henry, David ldso, Marilyn Kolhei, Marylou Olson, Lester Palmer, Wesley Voth, and Marvel Woods. In second grade An Olson, and Donald Okrina joined our grade, this was also the year Mr. Olson came to Cottonwood as our new Superintendent. In third and fourth grade we had Miss Peterson as our teacher. Leonard Cravens, Ernest Hart and Emma Jean Javens joined our class that year. We were all very pleased in fifth grade when we could go upstairs for our classes. Quite a few new faces were introduced to us when Harriet Nelson, Gordon Carlson, Richard Wambeke, Lorraine Rigge, Donald De Crock, and Margaret Beacon entered. Remember our days in sixth grade? We spent most of the time copying from the dictionary, and pinning signs on the kids. I think some of us even remember a coat making a quick exit through the window. To help make the class more mischievous, Aloyus Barck, Dean Anderson, Ardys Pederson, Wally LeMon, Corrine Reinboldt, Shirley Johnson, Elsie Van Lerberghe, Geraldine Vande Voorde, Dorothy Kotval, Levine Olson, Ruth Huso and Wesley Knutson joined us that year. Finally we reached the 7th grade, and we became a part of homecoming, the large assembly and class parties. Our large class became a little larger in 7th and 8th grade when Bill Johnson, Percy Paradis, Donald Wam- beke, Charles Caron, Rodney Brown, Evelyn and Roland Woods were added to the daily roll call. Remember the days in Miss Herrlinger's English Class? In 9th grade we welco ed six new members, namely: Sharon Lewis, Donald DeMartelaere, Jeanetta Kolander, Arlen Rosvold, Gerald, Gloria, and Donald Erickson. In lOth grade we got our choice of typing and geometry, and this was also the year we served as waiters and waitresses at the Prom. Our Junior year kept us busy, for we had charge of the Prom. Our theme was NMother Goose On Paraden and I think we all had a lot of fun working on it. In spite of the rainy night we chose for our Prom, it turned out to be fun. We also gave a class play entitled Love Is In The Air . I don't think I have to remind you.of the fun we had after practice. Now at last we are on the final step of becoming Seniors. It has been a pleasant twelve years and well worth every minute. This has been a busy eventful year with sports activities, parties, Skip Day, a very nice Prom, and many other happenings to make this our busiest year in high school. we feel privileged to be the first class to graduate in our beautiful new gymnasium. The 25 Seniors in our graduating class hope you will miss ug just a small fraction of the amou t we shall miss you. SECOND Rom Director. Mas. ERICKSEN, Stage n1reezer,lwAYNE SECHRIST5 George Allan CEDDIE7, William UMRULD HJ, Stage Manager fJAH'E'S AJ. 16 The play revolves about the act- tions of seven young people and Gramma Tierney. She is a self- reliant gramma, unperplexed by the mischief-making of the young because she has seen grander sin- fliflg in her own pioneering days. Caught eavesdropping ,gramma Tier- ney observes that you can learn more through a keyhole than going to a college and have less to xm- learn afterwards. The thing comes to a climax when Joan, the French maid, confesses to be a burlesque queen. Everything finally becomes straightened out though, and the play proves to be a grand success. FIRST RON: Ruth Huso, Donald Driessen, Geraldine Vande Voorde, Lester Palmer, Sharon Lewis , Donald Olmina, Harriet Nelson. BACK RCW: Emma Jean Javens, Ardys Pederson, Dean Anderson, Miss Milbrath-Director, Mary Lon Olson, Dorothy Henry Senior Class Play Brother Goose Jeff mistakes Pegg for the new maid, and Pegg, tired of selling hosiery and fond of the children, agrees to stay on and help out. But Lenore Hudson has Just in- herited a million dollars, and has commis- sioned Jeff to build her a new house--which she hopes he will eventually share with he-. Hy, the little tomboy, whose passion is football, hates Lenore because she is building her house on their football lot, and is starting to excavate the very day of the important game. In an excruciatingly funm scene, Hy puts a crimp in Lenore's plans, but Pegg shields Hy and takes the blame herself. Jeff flares up at her. Peggy thinks she doesn't have a chance com- peting with a girl who inherited a million dollars---and leaves. Then Jeff realizes how much Pegg means to him. Hy gets her football squad out and they bring Pegg back. And then Peggy, in her delightfully vague ibut not so dumbb way, pulls a few tricks herself, which put the million- dollar baby out of the running. For Hya- cinth everything seem to come out O.K., EVEN THOUGH SHE DOESN't become captain of her football team. 17 Cast Jer1'----- -------- L ester Palmer Carol ---------- -Hairy' LOD 018011 Wes ......---.---- Donald Okrina Hyacinth --------- Dorotlur Henry Halen ...------ --Ardys Pederson Pegg ....-..-- ---- S haron Lewis Eve .....-.--- ---Harriet Nelson Sarah --------- Duma Jean Javens Lenore ----- Gerrie Vande Voorde Hrs. June h was chosen as our day for graduation, and it turned out to be a very successful and memorable day of our life. Professor Logan, vice-president of Gustavus Adolphus College was our speaker. The honor students gave very fine speeches and were pre- sented with their awards. Mr. Olson, president of the school board, then presented the long awaited diplomas to the twenty-five graduating seniors. 37 GUR SCHOOLHOUSE In Feb. 1953 the people of Cottonwood went to the poll and decided our school should be remodeled and have several additions. In May 1953 work be- gan and before long the community saw a beautiful school.
