Fast-walking. fast-talking Groce takes time out from special technical studies in bowing and the 50th posi- tion at the Sorbonne to attend daily matinee and evening performances of Van Johnson pictures. They have decided to hang her most famous in Arkansas suite as a tribute. The painting is called 'The South American Banana' That girl had great possibilities .... too bad she let Love interfere. But she's so happy with Rinaldo and the children' Betty Voss is another 'happy motherf She surprised everyone by marrying a Protestant. She met him while 'slinging hash' on the Great Lakes one summer. Her dreams of becoming a housemother at Notre Dame have never been fulfilled. However. she's planning to send 'the little one' to Notre Dame and hopes he will be- come the greatest football star since the days of Steve Toc7vlowski. XVhy. there's Elleneda Crawford at the far end of the room. She has been quite a success in her field. Yes, she's bringing farm production up to a new high. She was just recently elected foremost authority on poultry psychology. She had stimulated egg production by murals on chicken-house walls. violin music at three. and Rachmaninoff at egg-laying time-with every chord another egg. But one of the most successful carreer women of our class has been Marv Lou Cederquist. As head of the Cederquist Jewelers Incorporated. she has inaugurated a plan for raising oysters along with her pearls in Ashtabula harbor. She gives all the credit for her success to her many planaria regeneration experiments and the patience of Dr. Ewers.

Sendai: 01644 I9 , 1945 The red and white of Main Hall has an expectant air about it. The tangled mass of green ivy that invaded its every nook and cranny nods in the brisk March breeze. The beautiful old building is even more beautiful in contrast to the many modern structures on adjacent blocks. One of these, the large, imposing looking building across from P. If O.. is the classroom and administration building. There is another dorm to the north of the administration building which houses 250 girls. Behind P. E, O.. built on what was formerly the athletic field, is ,i small chapel-its Gothic architecture is the delight of every Cottey girl. Behind the chapel is faculty row. a court ot small white cottages, The new athletic tield is on the block where the first Cottey Inn had been many years betore. At the far end of the field. there is a small field house and then a not-quite-so-small stable. hous- ing a mount for every girl. Moonlight trail rides have become the favorite pastime of the Cottey students of llltii That first Cottey Inn has been replaced by another on the corner where there formerly was a small grocery store But the student Union Building is the pride and joy of the campus? The bowling alleys. game rooms. libraries. cafeterias. parlors. dance floors and lounges are entirely at the students' disposal. But to get back to Main Hall, XVhy is it wearing its know-all air? XVhy does it seem to smile. as if expecting some new jewel in its old crown of memories? Perhaps the crowded auditorium filled with older women. the bewildered look on the faces of juniors. the excited chatter of seniors talking to some girl who look as if she might have been a Cotteyite way back when, may explain it. Uh huh! You've guessed itl It's Foundet's Day. Xlost of the Class of '-45 are among the hodgepodge of faces. The honking of horns and the shifting of gears announce that still more of them are arriving. Some of them are even returning by helicopter. They land quite nonchalantly on the athletic field and smile understandingly at the harrassed juniors meekly directing trathc. l.et's follow this tall, raven-haired, sophisticated women as she walks over to the Student Union Building. I-Ier long. loose strides take her to the lounge designated as the meeting place and general headquarters for the alums of '45, Her hand hesitates tor the slightest moment as she reaches towards the door that will unveil old memories and acquaintances, Then she looks up eagerly. smiles. opens the door and enters the room. The sonata of high pitched voices suddenly stops in the middle of the allegro movement. Isn't that? I'm sure it isf It must be--it is' I.ouf Lott Jamesf XVell. all of you that have lived through a Foun- ders Day know what that means. -Rather than make rhyme or reason from the babble which follows let's wait until it quiets down. This conversation should prove interesting. Of course. I missed a few years while th: children were young, but now that they're in school I've begun to teach again, 'Northwestern just gets in yotir blood' I saw in the Bulletin alumni news that you were living in New York this winter. 'XVell. I suppose you would call it living there. XVe call it our home address anyway. But John is gone much of the time. and my work keeps me so busy that we hardly see the penthouse, VW manage to take time to leave the hum-drum of the citv for a few months' travel each year. We're especially fond of the South Seas ..., although the Mediterranean is fascinating. Life isn't too boring, I guess. Have you heard who is to be here today' I know that Toni can't make it. Shes in the middle of her 365th week as star of Reading Vogue. her latest thing on Broadway. Confidentially. the great Neutonis plans to settle down with her fourth husband after this play. Says she intends to give up the stage permanently. Rosemary chtickled at this. and said, I really doubt if she'll give it up. don't you? Have you heard that Vis is managing the Duck pond at the 1065 St. Louis Exposition? As a decoy she uses a faded blueajean jacket . . . it's out in the show case in Main Hall now .... the big attraction in the Founders Day display of 'lirsts' at Cottev, Through the years, Vis has developed a more sympathetic understanding and tender treatment of young ducklings. Now and then, you even see Caretaker Jennie Claire take the wee weh foot in her motherly hand to determine any pttlse abnormality, She attributes her success to her rigid nurses' training. Speaking of Vis reminds me of Mini Do you know '.... 'H Yes, interrupts I.ott quickly, 'Ive heard the 'golden-voiced wren' on her 'Swoon-Soon-Moon' program. It must have been that lrium smile that landed the job for her. At present shes in the process ot grading her waitresses on their tap routines Singing waiters have become a part of Cottey-thanks to Mary. That crszy California suite' Doug really knew her stuff tho'. when getting her degree from Cottev. That duo-commercial and home ec course really came through. Little did Miss Harrison know that she had trained another Helen kk'ills Moody. Brodie is directing the propaganda department of the California Chamber of Commerce. She lands the work pleasant. It's really nothing that she hasn't done all her life. She served her apprenticeship here at Cottey and later received her Masters at Sunshine Seminary. Redlands. California. Say. I hayen't seen Babs I-rank around anywhere today. hut I had heard she was to be here. At this point Lou takes over with Her train is probably late. She owns two-thirds of the stock now in a large department store. She always was a controlling woman, She owes the success of the business to the large supply of loud, shrieking clothes. and articles featured in every department. Perhaps some of this shall come about. perhaps.not. Only time will tell. But the Sphinx prophesies that the '-I5 grads will always remember the Cottey that they l-,new and loved
