O . 6 . 6 O 7 6 A. 1'C .way It ,. , sf' f Robert Welch, Quarterback, Co-Captain At the beginning of the season the Rambler backfield was rated by many as One of the state's better choices. lt took four games to warm them up, but the season closed with Cotter's fou r horsemen going through and around their oppo- nents defense with clock-like per- sistency. Listening over the radio, one would hear the name of Bob Welch, Bob Srnec, Dave Peplinski, and Joe Hartert. But these four horsemen will be the last to claim any personal credit. Throughout their eight losses Cotter has main- tained a team in the true meaning of the word. Cotter's best game, by far, WGS the encounter with Lourdes. Cotter played its opponents almost even, gaining l88 yards total offense to 230 for the Eagles. Senior Joe Hartert climaxed his foot- ball career for Cotter by plunging from the two for his share in Cotter's point column. His touchdown was set up by Welch's 24-yard run. At the end of the season, the seniors, as usual must leave. Bidding farewell to Cotter will be Joseph Hartert, David Peplinski, Rob- ert Welch, Robert Srnec, James l-ar1g0wski, Gerald Swanson, and Donald Smith. We wish them future luck in football, wherever they may play, be it sand lot or professional. The Rambler's 1953 record may not be the best in the state but the spirit of the team was excellent. The boys never gave up until the final gun was sounded. Page 6 I
