The four weeks of Advent are a preparation for Christmas, during which time the advent wreath is plac- ed in the hall of Cotter High School. On the wreath there are tour candles which represent the tour weeks in pre- paration tor Christmas, Each week an additional candle is lighted as we grow nearer to the merry day of Christmas. Following the lighting of the candle and the singing of the psalms the cer- emony is concluded with a joyous Christmas carol, The Advent wreath is a project of the C.S.lVl.C. James Lang- owski, treasurer of the C.S.lVl.C., is pictured lighting the first candle in the fourth week preceding Christmas. 7 O'l-learn, and Janice Grupa. k -+C O Q uf. bl' 'I Q., ,s 4? -A i Father Dittrnan read the prayers for the Advent Wreath ceremanv Pictured in the FRONT ROW gi , nging tl-ig songs arei Patricia Vondrasek, Gloria Wiley, Mariorie Wieczorck, Mary Stewart, Shirley Molozk, Mary Arm T'- E3 Page 35 Making use ot their spiritual read- ing time during the day of recollec- tion are Richard Dean, Leon Piechow- ski, Gerald Serwa, John Sanders, Dominic Jasewski, William Blank, John Kauphusman, and Michael Cyert. Listening over the radio, one would hear the name of Bob Welch, Bob Srnec, Dave Peplinski, and Joe Hartert. But these four horsemen will be the last to claim any personal credit. Throughout their eight losses Cotter has main- tained a team in the true meaning of the word. Cotter's best game, by far, WGS the encounter with Lourdes. Cotter played its opponents almost even, gaining l88 yards total offense to 230 for the Eagles. Senior Joe Hartert climaxed his foot- ball career for Cotter by plunging from the two for his share in Cotter's point column. His touchdown was set up by Welch's 24-yard run. At the end of the season, the seniors, as usual must leave. Bidding farewell to Cotter will be Joseph Hartert, David Peplinski, Rob- ert Welch, Robert Srnec, James l-ar1g0wski, Gerald Swanson, and Donald Smith. We wish them future luck in football, wherever they may play, be it sand lot or professional. The Rambler's 1953 record may not be the best in the state but the spirit of the team was excellent. The boys never gave up until the final gun was sounded.
