A.S.B. PRESIDENT The 1964-1965 A. S. B. Presi- dent, Ted Bandaruk, was known to the students of Mesa High for his friendliness and schoolspirit As Student Body President he had many duties. Each morning he lead the entire school in the flag salute and many times gave the first period announcements. His mos t important job was being head of Student Council, which controls nearly all student acti- vities and works with the admin- istration. During the past four years, Ted participated in many eXtra-cur- ricular activities. In his Fresh- man year, Ted went out for jun- ior Varsity baseball, but as Ted put it, I was number nineteen and there were only eighteen uni- forms. Under his direction the junior Class of that year organ- ized and held the first Marty's Corral and the first Powder Puff football game. Also during his junior year Ted played Bee football. In his Senior year he played o n the defensive black team of the Varsity football squad . Following graduation, Ted plans to attend California Western University at La Jolla. STUDENT COUNCIL ROW 1: C . Evans ,,., M . Warwick - T. Bandaruk K fi! P. Walters M. Highsmith ROW 2: G. Bosque P. Bosque D. Fuller S. Turley ROW 3: R. Gordon L. Bradley T. Read When the 1964-65 Student Council first met, it Was in a unique position because not one of its members had previously served on the Mesa High Student Council. Its main traditional purposes are to manage the ASB budget and to foster and support extra -curricular activities. Two big pro- jects of this years' council were the creation of the Inter-Club Council and Student Code of Con- duct. Mesa's Student Council and Student Congress Worked in conjunction on the formation of the Student Code of Conduct. In addition, the council established traditions concerning Homecoming Activities by adding to the number of princesses and devising a new method for their selection. It also changed the charity collection from Total-All-Giving to the United Fund and donated S500 this year. One more complex undertaking by council members Was volunteering to plan and organize a dance called the Battle-of-the-Bands -Play-a-Thon for the three high schools in this area. All proceeds Went to the March of Dimes. It was evident that this year's Student Council was not handicapped by its initial inexperience, as it proved to be extremelyactive, creative, and completed its term with a long list of accomplishments. Student Congress Was composed of members elected by each English and Senior Social Studies class. Their purpose was to give the Student Body an avenue of communication with Student Gov- ernment. This year they Worked on the Student Code of Conduct, revised student elections and Worked on the possibility of a student store. STUDENT CONGRESS -1--: .l m fi 7 i 7' '
