PLAINFIELD SCHOOL Ring! Rin-n-ng! There goes the bell, officially be- ginning school for the term of 1955-19.56. 11 mm! Let’s have a look. Yes, this school at Plain- field looks just as any other high school would look. Take the freshman class for instance. Thirty-four students eager and looking forward to their very first day of high school. This is what they have been waiting for for a long time. But this class is no ordinary class, it has something special as you will see. This class has not thirty-four students, but thirty-four individuals, each possessing a certain quality of his own, and all striving to be members of the senior class of 1959. Next comes their sophomore year. They ordered their class rings that fall and received those precious items of jewelry in the spring. That year was soon gone and now here they are as juniors. My how they worked. They won the maga- zine sales contest held between the juniors and sen- iors. Next they conducted a not-so-successful scrap drive. They decorated the gym beautifully anti even entertained Santa Claus for their Christmas square dance. “Desperate Ambrose” was staged in April and was a grand success. In May they honored the seniors with an all-night, prom with “Magic Moments” as the theme. And thus ended their junior year. This year 26 of those individuals have acquired the proud title of “seniors.” The food stand at the county fair was an important project this year. This required a lot of work but proved to be a lot of fun, too. The stage production this year was titled “It’s Great to be Crazy.” This was also successful. They sponsored several square dances during the year and were in charge of the concessions at the basketball games. The scholarship team that went to Denison each year always included several members of the class. They are also proud of the boys who represented them on the basketball and baseball teams and the girls who were on the cheerleading squad. Several presidents of the various clubs are members of the class. Also the co-editor of the school paper “The Inkspot” and the co-captains of the basket- ball team are seniors. They enjoyed the results of all their hard work in a trip to New York City and Washington D.C. Now they were very busy making graduation plans. “Forward ever. Backward never” was chosen for their motto. Scarlet and grey arc their class colors with the red rose as their class flower. Listen! You can hear the faint strain of Pomp and Circumstance the processional. They have their diplomas now and their high school days are over. “Surprised? No, I’m not surprised, I knew they could do it all the time.” 16
