Stein became the new skipper with Larry Wentz as First Mate. The tenth year of our journey, Judy Uhl was the Captain with Harold Frank, Faye Hicks, and Larry Wentz as her staff. Mrs. Smith was the Crew Director. We became concerned with finances for entertaining the outgoing sailors our eleventh year and for staging our final review and class trip. After that things were ship shape as we sailed into our last two years of service. John Greten started as Captain, but transferred to another branch and was replaced by Larry Wentz. His staff included Larry Dickerson, Recorder, with Judy Uhl as Finance Officer and Mr. Ziegler as Crew Director. The crew acquired a popcorn pop- per, the school’s first, and served refreshments for Ship's Log Twenty members were on board at the start of our voyage into Education in September of 1946. Ten of them didn’t complete the cruise, while others came aboard at various ports along the way. In the seventh year, thirty of us were broken in to the routine of high school by our Fleet Admiral, Mr. Bucklew, and we selected our first Captain, Craig Taylor, with Linda Hothem as First Mate. Our Crew Director was Mr. Kinner. There was a staff turnover the eighth year as Mr. Johnson became Fleet Admiral and Shirley Shencman the new Captain and Harold Frank the First Mate. We placed 29% of the crew in the upper V of the county on the eighth grade test. On our ninth year out. The class play, Grandad Goes Wild, was presented. The theme, “Circus Time, was chosen for the Junior-Senior Banquet and worked out well with the crew’s mothers dishing out the chow. The senior year was the big one and again we had a staff turnover. The Skipper for the final year was Craig Taylor, the First Mate, Leslie Gil- more, the Recorder, Linda Hothem, the Finance Officer, Judy Uhl, the Crew Director, Mrs. Thomas, and there was a new Fleet Admiral, Mr. Davis. The year started with the presentation of “Look Behind You, and immediately advanced into tests, basketball, report cards, and Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter leave. As our ship approached the last ports, Com- mencement and the class trip, we began to realize that the voyage into Education that was begun in 1946 was coming to an end and we soon said goodbye to our fellow crew members for the last time. 10
