Stein became the new skipper with Larry Wentz as First Mate. The tenth year of our journey, Judy Uhl was the Captain with Harold Frank, Faye Hicks, and Larry Wentz as her staff. Mrs. Smith was the Crew Director. We became concerned with finances for entertaining the outgoing sailors our eleventh year and for staging our final review and class trip. After that things were ship shape as we sailed into our last two years of service. John Greten started as Captain, but transferred to another branch and was replaced by Larry Wentz. His staff included Larry Dickerson, Recorder, with Judy Uhl as Finance Officer and Mr. Ziegler as Crew Director. The crew acquired a popcorn pop- per, the school’s first, and served refreshments for Ship's Log Twenty members were on board at the start of our voyage into Education in September of 1946. Ten of them didn’t complete the cruise, while others came aboard at various ports along the way. In the seventh year, thirty of us were broken in to the routine of high school by our Fleet Admiral, Mr. Bucklew, and we selected our first Captain, Craig Taylor, with Linda Hothem as First Mate. Our Crew Director was Mr. Kinner. There was a staff turnover the eighth year as Mr. Johnson became Fleet Admiral and Shirley Shencman the new Captain and Harold Frank the First Mate. We placed 29% of the crew in the upper V of the county on the eighth grade test. On our ninth year out. Mr. McCrca took over as Director of our sea-worthy crew and Loretta SENIOR CLASS PLAY Look Behind You Row One: “Vcrla. Judy Uhl; Carmclita. The class play, Grandad Goes Wild, was presented. The theme, “Circus Time, was chosen for the Junior-Senior Banquet and worked out well with the crew’s mothers dishing out the chow. The senior year was the big one and again we had a staff turnover. The Skipper for the final year was Craig Taylor, the First Mate, Leslie Gil- more, the Recorder, Linda Hothem, the Finance Officer, Judy Uhl, the Crew Director, Mrs. Thomas, and there was a new Fleet Admiral, Mr. Davis. The year started with the presentation of “Look Behind You, and immediately advanced into tests, basketball, report cards, and Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter leave. As our ship approached the last ports, Com- mencement and the class trip, we began to realize that the voyage into Education that was begun in 1946 was coming to an end and we soon said goodbye to our fellow crew members for the last time. 10 JUNIOR CLASS Row One: Marlene Cruxton. PLAINFIELD SCHOOL Senior Class History The Senior Class of Plainfield High School, which began in the year of 1954, has come a long way up the ladder since the first day we set our feet within the portals of Plainfield High School. Beginning in our Freshman Year of School, we had 33 students in our class. In our Sophomore and Junior Years we had 15. Now as we enter into the last year of our high school we have 14 Seniors. Two in our class began at Plainfield in Grade One and have continued through Grade Twelve. There are 11 in the class that have attended Plain- field since their Freshman Year. During our Junior Year of high school we pre- sented a play called, “Bolts and Nuts.” We also had the honor of giving a Junior-Senior Prom in honor of the Senior Class of 1957. We worked very hard to get ready for the Prom. We were very pleased with the success of the Prom. Since our Freshman Year, we have all been looking forward to the day when we will take our Senior Class Trip. We have worked hard to get the money for the trip, which we plan to take in May, to Washington and New York City. During our Junior and Senior Years, we had four square dances which helped us a great deal towards the Prom and the Class Trip. We are proud of the boys in our class who have represented us in the baseball and basketball teams for the past 4 years. This year we are happy to say that 7 boys in our class are on the basketball team. Our class colors are blue and white; also, the class flower is blue and white carnations. Our motto is, “From the Halls of School, To the Cor- ridors of Life.” We have also had quite a few good times in Plainfield High. We have had many good class parties which were lots of fun. We will never for- get our years in Plainfield High School. 16 Faculty ROBERTA ASHCRAFT - Denison University, A.B. Majors: Latin. English. French. Biology. Minors: Home Economics. History. It read: “You are cordially invited to a small private party to be held in Madison Square Garden on April 17, 1970. Signed. FAITH VORYS,” who is now a famous socialite. Among the first to arrive was the 42nd Presi- dent of the United States, ROBERT UNDER- WOOD, Secretary of the Army, ELMER WRIGHT (who graduated first in his class at West Point), and the President’s personal golf caddy, TOM FOWLER. Next we met JEAN MASON who has been practicing for months for her special concert for the 42nd President of the United States. Also attending was the proprietress of the big- gest department store in New Castle, MARIANNE FELVER, accompanied by one of her models, MARYLIN McCOY. ATTIEMAE HACKNEY is now the owner of the New York Slcnderella Salon. Attending from California was JERRY THORNSLEY, the second Elvis Presley, the first one having shaken himself to death. GAYLE DICKINSON, the star of the television show, “Private Secretary,” and JANICE MIZER and JUDY CRIDER, who own a photography studio for the movie stars, were also present. From New York was the editor of “Popular Mechanics Magazine,” BILL RICHARDS. MAR- GARET SIBERT is now a famous Broadway actress. SANDRA BUSHEE is a clothes buyer for Macy’s. CHARLES ROLLINS was able to attend because the Globetrotters were in town. The prosperous owners of the Standard Oil Com- pany, ROBERT WELLING and HAROLD BILLMAN, seemed to be enjoying the champagne immensely. JEAN SPECKMAN informed us that she had 10 boys and 5 girls to help her and Carl run the farm. NAOMI ASHCRAFT is the president of the Union P.T.O. Dear old Union! DONNA ASHCRAFT was unable to attend because she was up in Sputnik No. 15. The life of the party was CHARLES UNDER- WOOD, the minister of the Murder Ridge Chris- tian Church. JACK SHEPHERD, the owner of an orange grove in Florida, passed out free oranges to ev- eryone. Representatives of the educational field were: BOB RICHARD. Professor of Math at Ohio State University; ELLEN GUTHRIE, Principal of Union Elementary School; and CAROLYN AN- DERSON, the head of an exclusive boys’ school. MR. FUNK was touring the world for his health. He had a nervous breakdown during the year 1957-58 and never fully recovered. The small party was a huge success and an- other one is being planned in ten years. 24 Faculty MARY ASHCRAFT—Muskingum College. Ohio University. B.A. Major: Home Economics. Minors: Commercial. WARSAW SCHOOL Senior Class History In the year of 1954, our ship set sail on what was to be a four year cruise. Overhead a flag of crimson and white was gaily whipped about by the wind. There were forty-one anxious mates aboard. During the cruise eight fell overboard. Although the thought of losing these mates was saddening, we overtook another ship on which seven Pirates were aboard who willingly joined our crew. The first year we selected Ruth Ann Swartz as our captain, who had to steer a pretty rough course. The second year our captain was Donnie Darr. This was the year in which we selected our Pirate rings. The third year Donald Hays took over as our captain. Donald is better known as “Eagle Beak.” He acquired his name by his keen eyesight while watching for enemy ships from the watch tower of the ship. This year some of the members of our crew went into a port long enough to put on a show at the Riverboat Playhouse; it was entitled “Bolts and Nuts.” Also this year we invited another Pirate ship to have a Banquet chow with us aboard the W.H.S. Auditorium. On we sailed to our fourth year which ended our long journey. Frances Reigle took over as our captain. During the year we took on many projects including: our chow stand at the county fair, chicken suppers, and again this year some of our crew put on a play at the Riverboat Playhouse, entitled, Professor, How Could You?” We’ve made a little survey among the mates and we find that out of the forty of us there are twenty-one girls and nineteen boys. Although some people go through life without ever acquiring a nickname, our crew has some pretty fantastic ones, such as: Runt, Ronco, Os- trich, Fathead, Eagle Beak, Frog and Cardinal. As for the future plans of the crew, they vary in many different fields. The girls seem to choose such vocations as: office work, telegraph school, college, and marriage. The boys are interested mostly in the various branches of the service, farming, college, and even such unusual jobs like flying a rocket to the moon or becoming a forest ranger in the jungle. Now we are to travel on a much larger journey in a much larger sea. We are hoping that none of us will fall overboard as we make this cruise. CONESVILLE KEENE ROSCOE The Three Rivers Local School District was formed April 30th, 1957. It is composed of the Conesville, Keene and Roscoe High Schools and the Pleasant Valley Elementary School. The new district is planning a new high school building to house all of the high school stu- dents of the district. Maynard Bauer was hired as local superintendent for the district. CONESVILLE Class Prophecy Well folks, here we arc. It is March 15, 1968, and the class of 1958 is looking back on its old high school days, as I, Danny Griffith, news com- mentator here at W C H S, Conesville’s new radio station, am reporting the news of today. Most important to us here at W C H S is the fact that the Three Rivers High School won the State Basketball Championship with the superb coaching of Ned Tumblin. The Governor of Ohio, The Honorable Rodney Guilliams, was on hand to present the trophy to our boys. I noticed that there were several other native celebrities in at- tendance, which included Dick Shroyer, engineer of the Universal Cyclops Plant and his wife, the former Lois Graham, along with Charles Moyer, the Manager of the A P Store, and his wife, the former Carolyn Foust. I’m told that she is working as his secretary as a sideline from housekeeping. Another celebrity was the General Manager of the Concsvillc branch of the Southern Electric Corpo- ration, Renard Wright and his secretary and wife, the former Sandra Lapp. And now, your sponsor, Jim Darner, manager of Darner Ford Sales, reminds you to buy your new Ford from his head salesman, David Chaney. On the subject of local news, the new, modem, 500 bed, Coshocton Memorial Hospital will have tours conducted by Phyllis Carroll and Pauline Lipps, both registered nurses. The receptionist will be Zoc Ann Norris. Also on the local news: Governor Guilliams’ private secretary, Sandra Hardesty, and switch board operator Marla Jones, visited their former classmate, Carol Watson, who is teaching com- mercial subjects at the Three Rivers High School. In the world news, Rodney Whitcus and Dick Ugie have just set a new speed record in a P-29 Jet. And now, Harold Foster, manager of the Rock and Roll Theater wishes to announce the premiere performance of “Rockin’ Chair Blues,” starring Linda Dawson and Betty Jones. And now folks, you can see that the Senior Class of 1958 has really gone places in the last ten years, and you can too if you work as hard as they did. 64 Faculty HERBERT ARNETT-Potomac State College; Marshall Col- lege. Dear World, Sometime this Spring, around the end of May we shall release to your care the members of our senior class. It is our fondest hope that they shall succeed and help to soothe some of your many wounds. This class has passed through many incidents on its journey toward graduation. Fondly do they remember those fifteen minute recesses and getting out for lunch at 11:15 A.M. Oftimes they were grossly overworked, piled with homework, or forced to go to school in squirrel hunting weather. But these students bore their hardships and shared their joys. Now if this were the Christmas of 1973, and you were Santa Claus, we might write a letter which would sound like this: “Mr. Claus (that would be you)” The Keene Senior Class of 1958 has always behaved themselves and thus they ask these few small favors of you: Would you please give Grace Baird a new time on T.V.? Why last month the programs on the other channels had fewer viewers than there are bikinis in Alaska. Ronnie Fisher would appreciate a new coon dog. The one he has now has worn three inches from its legs winning field trials by the hundreds. Kay Adams is in need of a new electric typewriter, she broke the word per minute barrier on her present one. If you would present Jean Karr with the job of head nurse at the Coshocton Me- morial Hospital, it would make her very happy. Just to keep old times alive you could hand Lillian Croft the job of Board President. Since Perry Lcvengood is a politician, he doesn’t need a thing. He has so many pink Cadillacs that even Elvis is jealous. Joyce Payne, one of the most successful newswomcn, could use a few good stories for next year. Give Marilyn Ebcrwine and Jayne Farnsworth, an unusually large houseful of happiness. In closing, we wish to tell you that we received an urgent request for stockholders in the Starbound Rocket Corporation which is co-managed by Jim Wiggins and Dave Marshall. But this is not the future and you aren’t Santa Claus, so just give these kids a chance to prove themselves. Remember, Mr. World, you were young once, too. Very sincerely yours, (Two mice from the teacher’s desk in Homeroom 103) KEENE Faculty MARIE BRHIDF.NBAUGH-Bowling Green State University, B.S. in Education. Major: Instrumental Music. ROSCOE Several improvements have been made in the Roscoe School Plant since the 1957 County Annual was published. New asphalt tile covering has been installed on the first and second corridor floors; new wardrobe and instrument cabinets have been built in the high school music room; an attractive triple mirror has been mounted in the home economics department; a new storage cabinet, a water closet, and a sink have been installed in one of the first grade rooms; a new metal lathe has been added to the equipment in the industrial arts department. Final payment on the up-to-date score board has been made by the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department and the Roscoe Parent-Teacher’s Association. In the 1957 Coshocton County Fair School Exhibit. Roscoe School won an A grade in all departments except one. The departments exhibiting were high school, high school art, home economics, business education, industrial arts, elementary grades, and grade art. In the 1956-57 basketball season, Roscoe tied with West Lafayette for second place in the Coshocton County league. Our record was eleven wins and three losses. We lost the tournament consolation game to Conesville. We have again added football to our list of competitive sports. We played an abbreviated schedule last fall but are planning to have a full schedule in 1958. 86 Faculty CLYDE OLINGF.R-Muskingum. B.S. in Education. Major: Geology. Minors: Biology. English. Speech.
