We began our high school careers on September 8, 1965. After a few days of bewilderment and wandering about the halls, asking teachers where this and that room was, we settled down and became use; to the system. The able guidance of Mrs. Zimmerman, Miss Colburn, and Mr. Edie also helped us to gain in knowledge of the affairs of high school life, with its new excitement and responsibilities. To help us organize our efforts into orderly channels, we chose Larry Young as our class President, Paul Businger as Vice President, Dwayne Beach as Secretary, and Donna Thomas as Treasurer. We were sorry that Beth Buist, Norman Duffman, Dave Svoboda, and Sue Taylor were unable to continue with us as Sophomores. Our second year as high school students was begun with a little more understanding of what was expected of us. Gone was the bewilderment of the Freshman year; in its place was the knowledge that school could be surmounted— but only by hard work. To lead our way were Mrs. Davies, Mrs. Wasbro, and Mr. Pixley, and to assist them we elected our class officers: President, Gary Fruchey; Vice President, Debbie Baier; Secretary, Jeanette Hartman; and Treasurer, Pam Marquart. One of the highlights of this eventful year was choosing our class rings. During the year we lost Helen Baker and Jeanette Hartman. After a too-short vacation we came back to school as Juniors. The first few weeks were an unwelcome change from the fun-filled summer days, but it proved to be an important and eventful year, beginning with receiving our class rings and the Homecoming Dance, and gradually leading up to the presentation of the Junior— Senior Prom, entitled Fairyland by Night. Early in the year we chose our class officers. The results showed: Gary Fruchey, President; Dwayne Beach, Vice President; Linda Schaller, Secretary; and Larry Bowersox, Treasurer. Working together with our sponsors, Mr. Deeds, Mr. Rossman, and Mr. Abbey, we found that school could be a great deal of fun. Linda Hoffman and Donna Montgomery entered our class during the year, but Linda, along with Terry Freed, Christine Smith, Sheila Smith, and Ricky Wilson, was not able to begin the Senior year with us. Now at last we are Seniors. We are the ones who are looked up to by the underclassmen, who are now leading the way. We have our future lives to look forward to, but memories of these four years will stay with us. In our first class meeting we chose our officers for our final year: President, Kurt Beach; Vice President, Dwayne Beach; Secretary, Roger Scoles; and Treasurer, Roger Frommer. Our sponsors, Mrs. McHugh, Mr. Clevidence, and Mr. Hamman, assi sted us in choosing our class motto, colors, and flower. We, along with Larry Williams, whom we gained at the beginning of the year, are looking forward to the Junior— Senior Prom and Commencement, which will climax four of the most enjoyable years of our lives. Senior Class Prophecy The Sixty-niners are participating in the Rose Bowl; it took us ten years but we have finally arrived. It ' s a bright, clear day and I (Diana Bonhard, roving reporter for the C-R Globe-Tribune ) can see everything that ' s going on below from the Fruchey Blimp, designed by G.L. Fruchey, the world-renowned authority on blimps. As I was boarding the blimp, Wayne Blackburn and Steve Armbrecht tried to pressure me into placing a bet on the game, but the odds weren ' t very attractive, so I declined. The blimp rose from the ground and followed the Tournament of Roses Parade which was just getting underway. At the head of the first band, Drum Major Larry Young is proudly strutting and twirling his baton to the delight of all. Following close behind are majorettes Jane Ridge, Debbie Baier, and Barb Honse, who are gingerly twirling their fire batons. Bringing up the rear, blasting mightily away on their tubas, are Sherry Decker and Karla Sasse. Trilling away oh, so delicately on their flutes are none other than Kurt Beach and Dave Peterson. The director of this amazing band is Carol Redick. If one of the band members i s out of step, Carol kicks them in the shins. Following the band are several floats, the first of which is entitled The Eternal Auguers. On it are Becky Stine and Darwin Rader, who are discussing whether Roger Frommer should or should not be allowed to practice witchcraft. The next float features the Bowersox Computer Dating Com- pany. One example of the company ' s perfect match-making is Pam Marquart and Paul Marquart. (Pam won ' t even need a legal ceremony to share Paul ' s name.) Keith Kline and Jean Boyd are supposedly perfect for each other because they are both fond of Siberian Cheese Hounds. Connie Leeper and Joel Harris have a mutual disgust for pointed hats, which has created a strong bond between them. Larry Bowersox, the owner of the dating company, is suing his wife, Becky Huss, for divorce on the grounds that they are incompatible and have nothing in common. It is also rumored that Larry has never gotten accustomed to Bee ' s rather novel— and a little dicconcerting— habit of inviting Dave Harman to lunch every third Tuesday of each month. Now isn ' t this a mothy-looking crew! Doug Hicks ' Hippie Cult is participating in the parade. Doug is sort of maharishi-flower leader. One of his devoted followers is Lynda Gallant. The poor girl is having an experience right on Main Street of Pasadena! Raymond Freeh and Steve Cantwell, two other members of the Hicks Cult, are doing a mind-expanding rendition of the fox-trot. Mike Bowyer and Janice Hauter (more of Doug ' s followers), are going a rather interesting pantomine of a fight between a mongoose and a cobra. I can hardly believe my eyes, but here is Cleopatra ' s Royal Barge being pulled by three examples of Herculean strength, Debbie Wilson, Linda Stults, and Marlene Ruppright. Cleopatra is being fanned by Steve Diller and Sam Traucht. Cleo is none other than Barb Westall, looking very elegant in her gold-plated bell-bottom jump suit, which is a creation of the House of Pamela Baumeier Originals. Around the barge the acrobats are putting on a fine show. Mike Inniger and Randy Bunn are turning flip-flops with merry abandon. THE PEOPLE ' S BANKING COMPANY We try to serve all McComb, Ohio 32 The next one is a political float featuring Steve McLaughlin for president of the National Girl- watchers ' Association. Mike Daniels and Russell Withrow are passing out bumper stickers and campaign buttons which they designed themselves. The blimp is now over the stadium. The kick-off will be in a few minutes. Our ambitions have finally materialized. The Sixty-niners have made it to the Rose Bowl! The sportscasters for the game are Donna Montgomery and Gary Heldman. They ' re sure to give a very prejudiced commentary on the game. The ref erees will be Ronnie Kidd, Tony Miller, and Roger Scoles. Knowing them, I ' m sure this game will have a good number of penalties, all against our foes. The Sixty-niners are wearing white jerseys and white pants, a symbol of our purity and innocence. The starting line up is as follows: At end, Mike Parker and Larry Williams. (In the old high school days Mike and Larry weren ' t interested in football, but their more aggressive natures have prevailed) Denny Woodruff and Pete von Stein are the running backs; they ' ve covered themselves with glory during the past few years. Manfred Humann and John Bower are taking the tackle position. Manfred always has a red rose clenched between his teeth when he comes on the field. John just murmurs a few prayers. Paul Businger, the center, never fails to give the ball a quick kiss before the snap. Steve Bormuth is the Sixty-niners fullback; his tremendous speed has won him many honors. The quarterback for this fine team is Lois Elsea. She is the first female quarterback to play in the Rose Bowl. Since Lois is the only girl on the team she has run into several understandable difficulties. Dewey Beach has been a tremendous help to her; he holds back the rest of the team so Lois can shower in safety. Doug Bundy and Chris Robison are now singing our national anthem. Isn ' t that nice— a star-spangled duet!! The teams are positioning themselves for the kick-off. The referee is getting ready to blow his whistle— what ' s this? Two girls are scurrying across the field! It ' s Shelley Romick and Dianne Dukes! They discovered that they were on our opponent ' s side so they beat a hasty retreat. Amid this scene of bright colors and determined faces, four figures are visible from atop the press box. Connie Badertscher and Nona Babcock are arguing with Donna Thomas and Linda Schaller on whether it is how one plays the game that counts or whether it ' s winning thats the important thing. Perhaps neither theory is of much importance. What is really important is that we, the Cory-Rawson Class of 1969, reached our goal; we achieved the impossible.
