There were twenty-four from the Cory district cmd twenty from the Rawson district. Of these, twenty-seven have finished their twelve years together. In the grade school one of our members, Eris lean Peterman passed away. She was missed very much by the rest of the class. In the fall of 1949 a very wonderful occasion took place, the two schools consolidated. Everyone now felt as though they would have a lot more new friends. The members from Rawson all remember one evening, the evening of our Freshman initiation. Afterwards everyone enjoyed a wiener roast. Under the direction of Mr. Fink and Mr. Knight we chose our class officers: President Iudy Benroth, Vice President Arthur Pursley, Secretary Harold Roth, Treasurer Forrest Welch, Assistant Treasurer Patricia Trackler. Our Sophomore year went very smoothly under the direction of our former sponsors. Everyone was well acquainted with each other by this time. We were sorry that the following year some of our classmates did not return. They were Iames Kimberly, Mildred Goner, Mary Sampson and Ioan Severns. However we welcomed Patricia Logsdon and Pat Martin as new classmates. At our first class meeting of this year we selected our officers: President Edwin Wolber, Vice President Richard Amstutz, Secretary Shirley Beach, and Treasurer Iames Frantz. Also during our Sophomore year the following moved away: Arthur Pursley, Wendall lay, Rilla Chamberlin, and Phillip Patton. We all looked forward to our Junior year. At last it came! One of the important events of this year was the junior play, Three Fingers in the Door, under the direction of Mrs. Oswald. Another was the junior-Senior Banquet. Several committees were chosen, all of which worked extra hard to prepare an entertaining evening. Our sponsors were so fond of us that they moved ahead with us another year. For the first time our class was all together. We had transferred to the new building. We all felt as though we were in a castle. Everything was as convenient as we could want it. President Larry Ream, Vice President Ioe Welch, Secretary Sue Hartman, and Treasurer Ieanine Beach were our officers for this year. We welcomed into our class this year Duaine DeLong, Marilyn DeVore, Rosemary Wonder, and Loretta Collins. We then lost four of our members, who were: Loretta Collins, Margaret Walters, Norma lean Crates, and Pat Martin. Now that we have reached the last and final, our Senior year, we are pre- paring ourselves for the future. One of our first undertakings was to select our class officers: President Larry Beam, Vice President A1 Williamson, Secretary Marilyn DeVore, Treasurer Shirley Battles, and Assistant Treasurer Loretta Gehron. The annual staff was also chosen, and they soon began to work on this book. We added one more member to our class this year, Ruth Richards, making a total of fifty. In October we went to Tiffin to get our pictures taken. It seemed as though most everyone enjoyed himself. On March 29 we presented, under the helpful guidance of Mr. Knight, our Senior class play. We are very fortunate to be the first class that was together in their four years of high school since the two schools consolidated. Our last achievement as a class was our class trip which was enjoyed greatly by all, including the class sponsors, Mr. Knight and Mr. Fink. B. E. WOLFROM CORBIN BROS, General Hardware 25 Chevrolet Gasoline, Oils, Paints Glas Arlington Ohio Mt. Cory Ohio THE CLASS PHUPIHEUY I had never been to a fortune teller before, but had heard much about the strange powers of Madam Zuikov so I decided to see if there was anything to this fortune-telling racket. Since I didn't care about my own future it oc- curred to me to ask what had become of my classmates. Some of the answers were what I had expected but others were very surprising. Patricia Logsdon, having lost her tomboyish ways, has become a ballet dancer. Ted Morris is warden of the new State Penitentiary. Betty and Eloise Sampson are nurses at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Forrest and Ioe Welch are owners of a hot rod racer. Ioe does the driving and Forrest acts as mechanic. Mary Hauen- stein, Ieanine Beach, Pat Trackler and Wayne Marquart are married. Wayne has two little dark-haired girls. Donald Amstutz is a dairy farmer while Iudy Benroth is running a steer ranch in Texas. Rus- sell Koontz is no longer the shy boy he once was. He is one of the best high pressure sales- men in the business. Ferrall Frazier, Ronald Smith, and Marvin Garmatter are modeling for tall men's fashions. Loretta Gehron is the home economics teacher at C-R while Sue Hartman has become a private secretary to a big shot at the Ohio Oil. Nellie Honse is a manicurist in a barber shop. Carol Gallant and Dorothy Wilch are operating a finishing school for girls in New York. Charles Barger has become a mortician and has Iohn Hassan and Richard Stine working with him as gravediggers. Bob Neff and Don Blunk have formed a tag team for TV wrestling. Helen Robinson has changed and is now a quiet and studious librarian. Shirley Battles is a promising criminal lawyer. Dorothy Yoakam is the housemother of a fratemity. Duaine De Long is driving an explosives truck while Don- ald Marquart is a cross country truck driver. Ruth Richards and Rosemary Wonder are oper- ating an orphanage. Harold Bosse is a news- paper photographer. Shirley Beach is still in Hollywood trying to crash pictures, while Kaye Nonnamaker and Larry Creeger have made good on TV. Larry is a member of a debate- forum and Kaye has her own variety show. Harold Roth and Elwood Iames are in the Army. Larry Ream has become a private de- tective. Richard Amstutz has changed his ways and become a minister on the Bowery. Lois Reel is, the youngest congresswoman. Emily Brown is busily engaged in being engaged to two men at the same time. Marilyn De Vore is running a taxi service between Rawson and Mt. Cory. Al Williamson is playing football with the Cleveland Browns, and their luck has changed since 1952. Iohn Peter is a scientist and has just succeeded in blowing up his labor- atory. Edwin Wolber has taken over Lex Barker's role as Tarzan. Iames Frantz is posing for hair tonic ads. Bill Steinman is a jockey and won the last Kentucky Derby riding Over- drive. Last of all Iohn Gauss has become a missionary to China. The picture faded away and the present again became a reality. Only time can tell as to what will happen to these class members in the next ten years. Our Senior Scholarship Team of l953 has again shown that Cory-Rawson is a school to be reckoned With in the educational circles of Hancock County and the State of Ohio. It has been a yearly custom for our pupils to excel in this test but it is unusual to reach the heights achieved by this group and one of its members. Lois Ann Reel, one of the outstanding pupils of our school placed first in Hancock County, first in the Bowling Green District, and first in the State of Ohio among the 6475 senior girls taking the test. Her score of 244 was 26 points higher than her nearest competitor in Hancock County. We are indeed proud of Lois and happy that she has brought this honor to our school. I hope you will all realize the importance of these results, the great achieve- ment of those who participated, and the satisfaction that comes when we, as a school, can excel in an educational adventure of this magnitude. I attribute part of this triumph to our excellent teaching staff, both elementary and high school. I want to congratulate our scholarship team, and also say to the Senior classes of coming years, Here is a challenge that cannot be lightly taken. Robert K. Derrickson, Supt. He made the all-county team for two years, and was a three year letter- man for C-R receiving much publicity, which was well earned. Don Blunk: Don at 200 pounds was a dependable tackle on both offense and defense. Blunk being a two year letter man made the all-county team this year. Richard Amstutz: A dead-eye passer scoring a total of 6 TD's for the Hornets. Dick guided the team to a very success- ful year. He was on the all-county's second team. Bob Neff: Twin to Blunk's 200 pounds saw a lot of action for the Hornets his last two years at C-R. Neff made second all-county team. A very dependable tackle on both offense and defense teams. Iohn Gauss: A fast traveling half back proved to be of great value during his four years of football, three of which he was a letter man. Iohn made honorable mention his Ir. year and all-county team in his Sr. year. Wayne Marquart: Our defensive signal caller played a very rugged game of ball making the all-county team for two years. Wayne was marked as a clean- rough player for the champs this year. Larry Ream: An all-county end played a very successful game at Arlington this year, where he scored our first touch- down, totaling three for him this year. Larry was also well noted for his de- fensive work for the Hornets. lim Frantz: lim, a two year letter man tallied four touchdowns in his Ir. year and was a very valuable man on de- fense this year. i FUUTBALL PLAYERS Ed Wolber: Outstanding defensive play- er as our line backer. Ed made all- county guard this year. He also was a four year letter man. Iohn Hassan: John was a small but hard-hearted senior on the Hornets team. He didn't play too much but had the courage to go in fighting whenever the Hornets needed him. Ted Morris: Playing center and guard, Ted proved very successful on both of C-R's offensive and defensive teams. A two year letter man for the Hornets. Russell Koontz: A strong willed end for the C-R, was Russell, and also another one of the letter men for the Hornets this year. Ronnie Smith: A six foot tackle was good on both offense and defense also. Ronnie was a two year letter man for C-R. Elwood Iames: Coming out only in his senior year, Elwood, being a very rough tackle, stayed with the Hornets through their very successful year. Charles Barqer: Charlie was a rugged defense guard who was hard to keep your eye on as he moved through the line. A two year letter man for the Hornets also. Iudy Benroth: Iudy was a senior cheer- leader who helped ,bring the champs through a successful year. Bill Steinman: Bill acted as manager for the Hornets during his Ir. G Sr. years. FUUTBALL RESUME Liberty: On September 19, C-R came through with their first league victory by trouncing Liberty 52-0. Liberty's offense was stopped mainly by the sparkling defensive play by W. Marquart, Blunk, and Neff. The four boys in the scoring parade were Williamson with 4 TD's, Gauss with 2, and Richard Heldman and Dave Creighton with 1 TD each. Weidman kicked 4 PAT's. Vanlue: Although the Hornets were slow getting started in the game of Sept. 26, they came through with a 39-0 victory. Our boys outgained the Wild- cats by holding their net gain to 106 yards to our 463. Dick Amstutz sparked the win, scoring 3 TD's 6: 1 PAT. Single TD's were contributed by Gauss, lim Montgomery and A1 Williamson. Williamson also added 2 PAT's. Mt. Blanchard: C-R had little trouble handling the highly-rated Hurricanes, although they were with- out the services of Iohn Gauss 5: Iohn Heldman, because of injuries, as was proved by the 34-0 win on the C-R field. The defense was extremely rugged, with the outstanding playing of Ed Wol- ber. Williamson contributed 3 TD's, Hugus and Larry Ream 1. Weidman kicked 4 of 5 PAT's. Van Buren: On a cold night of Oct. 10, C-R ven- tured to Van Buren for another exciting football game. The Hornets had little trouble downing the Black Knights, to bring home another victory with a score of 49-0. A wonderful game was played by both offensive and defensive teams. Van Buren had a strong will to take the unbeaten Hornets, but were unable to do so. Arlington: With the determination to fight, and a mind set to conquer the former champion Red Devils, C-R paid Arlington a visit which will not soon be forgotten. On Oct. 17, there was a battle of giants as our unbeaten, unscored on team squared off with the Red Devils before what is be- lieved to be the largest crowd ever to turn out for a Hancock Co. league contest. Although it seemed the teams were playing at a standstill our boys were steadily shattering the A.H.S. defense. In the opening of the 4th quarter, C-R started to roll when a 40 yard pass from Amstutz to Ream, clicked for a TD. Later Williamson broke loose on a 51 yard gallop for the second TD, with Ierry Weidman converting successfully on both at- tempts. McComb: After disposing of Arlington the week before, on Oct. 23 the Hornets offensive game ob- viously suffered, while I. B. Finley had his Pan- thers sky high for this one. C-R fumbled away two golden scoring opportunities: had one thwarted by a pass interception, and another a 22-yard jaunt by lohn Gauss for a TD, called back because the backfield was in motion. The Hornets outplayed the Panthers, as was shown by their rushing, pass- ing 223 yds. to McComb's 45 yd. total. Time after time C-R penetrated deep into the Panther territory but never allowed McComb to reach their 20 yard line. In the third quarter lim Hugus, on a keep- play, made our only TD on a 30 yard gallop. 6-0. Arcadia: Cory-Rawson traveled to Arcadia on Oct. 31, to complete a highly successful season: un- beaten, untied and unscored on. The Redskins went all out to score on the Hornets and tried many unorthodox plays, but were unable to do so as C-R Won 41-0. Neff, Marquart and Blunk, three of our linemen, averaged five yards per try as they tested their ability in the backfield. TD's were made by Williamson, 37 Gauss, lp Amstutz, 1, and Larry Ream, 1. Congratulations to all the boys who played foot- ball for C-R this year, from Freshmen to Seniors, you all did a very good job. Good luck to the underclassmen in the years to come from the complete Senior class. We hope you have a successful season in the many years to come.
