Cory-Rawson played its first engagement of the 1950 football sea- son 1n a preview performance at North Balt1 more agamst Columbus Grove on September 8th In the open1ng mmutes of the game the powerful Grove team marched down the field for a TD and extra pomt After Groves strong defense forced the Hornet s to punt a Bulldog back speed1ly returned the ball 45 yards for another TD and extra po1nt 'I'he Hornets offenslve umt fa1led to get started and the final score was 14 0 MT BLANCHARD In the first league con test Cory Rawson battled the b1g Mt Blan chard team to a scoreless t1e on the Rawson field It was an outstand1ng defens1ve game for Cory Rawson rn wh1ch the Hornets repeated ly stopped the Blanchard offenslve threat In the th1rd quarter the Hornets penetrated to the Blanchard 6 yard l1ne for the closest scor 1ng threat of the game The score remained dead locked durmg the fourth per1od The final score was 0 0 VANLUE The Hornets traveled to Vanlue for thelr second league encounter In the first few mmutes Cory Rawson recovered a Van lue fumble on the Wlldcats thlrty On the first play from scrlmmage Rausch dashed over the goal for the Hornets first T D of the season and then converted makmg the score 7 0 Durmg the second quarter the teams battled on even terms w1th no serlous scoring threats In the th1rd quarter Jlm Dray downed Gene Lee of the Wlldcats on our 10 yard llne after Lee had run from the Cory Rawson 40 where he had lntercepted a pass Later ln the same er1od John Gauss broke able to score agam Kmg and Benroth played strong defenslve games The final score was Cory Rawson 7 Vanlue 0 LIBERTY The game w1th Liberty was played on the Rawson field For the first score of the game Rausch dashed 55 yards for a T D and then converted Next Rom1ck broke through for 30 yards and scored Ben roth then grabbed a pass and raced 45 yards for another touchdown To end the scor1ng IH the first half Rausch agaln dashed 55 yards to score makmg the halftlme score 25 0 Early 1n the th1rd per1od Falk sneaked across for another 6 po1nter and Rausch converted With the varsxty on the1r way to the showers W e1d man galloped 15 yards to pay dirt F1nally Llberty managed to score rn the open1ng mmutes of the last quarter For the last score of the game Roblnson streaked 40 yards for another touchdown F1nal score 44 6 ARCADIA.
