JV soccer boys make history The 1986 JV Boys Soccer team will go down in the record book as the first Corvallis boys team ever to beat Cresent Valley, and a solid victory it was with the Spartans taking the Raiders 4 to 1, according to coach Eric Pittenger. JV ended their season with a record of 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties. The tie games were with McMinville's varsity team and CV's number oneJV team. The single loss was to a team that ended up at state finals. We weren't very big, said Pittenger, we faced apponents who just towered over us. Our success was due to our quickness, talent and teamwork... and coaching fHa-Haj. Twelve members of the team scored, including the goal keeper. The top scorers were Mike Eves who made seven goals and sixteen assists and Scott Hedges who scored eight goals and made six assists. 1: Alan Jeffers weaves between 2 opponents. 2: Todd Reeves fights for control of the ball. 3: JV Boys Soccer: Back Row QR-LJ: Paul Cihak, Alex Cerda, Alexio Baum, Coach Eric Pittenger Middle Row: Todd Reeves, Mike Galvan, Dave Welmen, John Oxenhandler, Greg Leamy, Alan Jeffers Front Row: Eric Haas, Joe Lopcr, Mike Eves, Orestes Jones, Andy Cerda, Marl Hawley, Sadhu Peibel. 4'-ll? n Girls played consistentl The freshmen girls' volleyball team is happy to close the season with 13 - 5. They didn't get high stats, but they feel good about how they played, according to freshman Ellen Nagy, who added, We need to work on talking before a game. You've got to be a team and you have to talk. All players agreed that though they had their down games, they were a good team. Another freshman Cone Laver said, I liked how everyone was the same and no star player stood out. They played consistently, and admit that there was no key point they had to work on, but they learned a lot from their mistakes. 1: Freshmen Girls Volleyball: Back Row CL-RJ: Coach Lynn Newark, Amy Schmissuer, jennifer Powell, Barbara Hill, Pascha Naderi-Nejad, Margo Eva, Jamie Wooley, Doug Reed Front Row: Tonya Gale, Amy Metcalf, Kelly Frazier, Cone Laver, Sabrina Haswell, Kari Holland, Paige Mdntirc, Ellen Nagy. 2: Ellen Nagy passes the ball to the setter. 3: Tonya Gale prepares for the opponents serve.

JV girls work hard junior varsity coach Maynard Freemole felt positive about the girls' 2-6 season, saying, Although we got off to a slow start with barely even a team, the girls worked hard, kept a good attitude and had a better season than the records indicate. According to sophomore Dorrie Knapp, Most of us hadn't played soccer before, but over the' course of the season we improved tremendously and had a lot of fun. The team's good attitude played a large part in their determination. Playing exhibition games each weekend against teams from higher leagues, they improved their skills while building up their confidence. Freemole added, XWhile most of our time was spent learning fundamentals, the girls were patient and showed much natural talent. As sophomore Allison Marek summed it up, We had a building season... next year we'll be more experienced and have a stronger team. 1: GirlsjV Soccer: Back Row fL-RQ: Coach Maynard Freemole, Katie O'Neill, Michelle johnson, Jenny Hansen, Kyle Kaagan, Melanie Smith, Krista Habelt, Eva Dye Middle Row: Daric McKibben, Ana Hilde, Dorrie Knapp, Allison Marek, Kirsten Starkey, Randi Oukrop, Lisa Olson 2: junior Randi Oukrop hustles towards the ball. 3: Sophomore Lisa Olson and Randi Oukrop move in on the ball as sophomore Eva Dye looks on.
