Mid winter snows and summer sun it keeps, A vigil while the peaceful valley sleeps. In years long past on its green mountain slopes A kindly people built their future hopes. While red skinned foes upon her ,people crept, A maid alone with God her vigil kept. She warned her tribe before it was too late. They safely in the woods escaped their fate. Be you a goddess or I1 voice long stilled, Both red and white mart to your story thrilled. Oh maiden of this mount ot sun and sky, To thee Chintimini we humbly cry. May you with God's help ever taithlul stand, To guard the peace you brought unto this land. Bill Knoll it eqead af dammena is ix M K Www Wi 3 1...-. O The foundation of dear old C.H.S. shook the day the class of '54, uninitiated to the ways of higher education. first entered its hallowed halls. With Fred McDonnal as president, we successfully completed our first year. We won the annual student body ticket race, and our prize was a free bus ride to the Albany- Corvallis basketball game. Starting on our climb to social success. we attended a get- acquainted party given by the ninth graders. We also had two eighth grade skates, a par- ty, and our class picnic. During our freshman year our activities included several skates and our class picnic. which was a huge success. We joined forces with the sophomores and held a mock track meet with a dance afterward. We attended our first circus. our class booth being the Wheel of Chance. Phyllis Stenbakken was our circus princess. As sopomores we really began to take an active part in helping to run C.H.S. Our lead- ers began to bloom forth in clubs and athlet- ics. We chose Gene Thompson to lead class affairs. At the close of the year we held our annual picnic at Avery Park. Our junior year found us trying to stick our 54 fingers in every C.H.S. pie. Iunior Sales. un- WEGNER. ARLYNE GLEN-Girls League l,2.3.45 Girls Glee 15 Hi C l,2.3.45 Mixed Chorus 2.3. WHEELER. Throughout this, our senior year, we have been constantly busy trying to make this year the best year oi all. With lim Berry wielding the gavel. we won the student body ticket race for the second time in our high school career. We carried on the tradition of last year's senior class by holding a class chili feed. We attended a spaghetti feed put on by the juniors. Under the direction of Mrs. Ruby Ruth Smith, we presented as our senior class play. Mr. Barry's Etchingsn. We were very fortunate in having the All-School Circus dur- ing our senior year. Princess Wendy Smith represented us on the circus court. Our treas- ury. which had reached over 5700.00 during our five years. went toward the purchase of the traditional senior gift for the school. During the sea- son the 6 foot 6 inch center compiled a total of 490 points for a 22.27 points per game av- erage. Dave broke the Big Six scoring record and also set a new school record of 35 points in one game. Albany's 6 foot 7 inch Dave Shelby was held to 14 points while Gam- bee pushed through 28 counters. Corvallis stopped the Toledo Boomers 51-36 in the first round of District Tournament. The game was not as much a pushover as the score might indicate. At the half the Spartans were only leading by two points, 19-17. After trading free-throws in the first few minutes of the second half, Holman called Koford off the bench and he prompt- ly sank three long swishers to break up the game, Gambee was high scorer with 26 points. Mak tale Corvallis took the first game of the Preliminary Round from Astoria to the tune of 38-28, The Sports drew first blood on a hook shot by Gambee and were never headed.
