Girls Score by Practicing They weren't the type of powerhouse teams you would see on television, but the girls Junior-Varsity and Freshman basketball teams proved that they were capable of playing an exciting game of ball! At many of the games, several outstanding fast breaks and set plays were performed very well and showed pro- spects of talent for future teams, Practices were sort of hard, the season was so long you had to think basketball all the time, but it was worth it, stated sophomore Dianne Shumway. The girls had concluded that the time they spent on prac- tices and games will indeed help in later seasons. Girls' J.V. Tightening the Belt Ah . . . Springtime. Smell the fresh air, and look at the green grass. Great time and weather to play baseball. But not just any baseball, no, good baseball. And that'sjust what the Varsi- ty baseball team set out to do. Everyday after school the noise of spiked cleats could be heard pounding out to the field to practice some ball. Coached by Ken Corley, the team worked on situations out on the field to get an actual game going so they could practice the real thing. The real thing finally came. March 3 officially opened the seoson's games, the only game that was on a weekday. The other games were held on Saturdays. The turnout for the games was terrific. Rooted on by Phillies and fans the group did their best. Good comrading was among the teammates. They truly demonstrated what good sportsmanship meant. They really worked well together and teamwork was very smooth. My feelings toward the team are really good, stated Coach Corley. But like all teams there were a few problems. Some of them were players starting late in the season because of basketball. But it was ironed out and the team got on their way. Competi- tion that was tough was Shadow Mountain, Brophy and Greenway. Just as fast as it had begun the season ended. On May I3 the 17 member team played their last game. The seniors, juniors, and one sophomore surely hated to see it go. . -.,.B4 A I To strengthen his arms, Steve Banlewicz, sophomore, swings with the bat.
