The Student Senate seems to be successful and has been instru- mental in the 'open campus' and other projects of betterment for Cortez. She is staying with the Morton Bowman family in which she has two sisters, Sandy and Sherri, and one brother, Tom, a sophomore at Cortez. When she returns to Finland Hilkka must finish three more years of high school. But our high school is like your college, she explains. The Colts finished the season with a 8-2 record. Skyline League B Champions, and first in the state in defense for lowest points scored upon. It was the first time that Cortez has played in the divisional playoffs and finished the season 5th ranked in the AAA high school ratings. Receiving all-conference honors were Dale Boughton, Roger Miller, Mike Larsen, Rick McCleer, jim Dearing, Robbie Robertson, and Mark McDonald, Making the Phoenix Gazette's All-State teams were Mike Larsen, Rick McCleer, and Dale Boughton. Mike Larsen and jim Dearing were also honored by the Arizona Republic for second team All-State, voted by the coaches. Last year at the end of an unsuccessful season, the Cortez basketball program promised us a more successful Varsity team in the future. Half Way through this season, the Colts had won more games than the last two seasons combined. For the seniors on the team, they leave with a season they can't complain about.
