We believe that Cortez will con- tinue on in its quest for a prominent position in the ranks of fine high schools. We are confident that its traditions and personality will be carried forth by the generations of students to come. It is with these beliefs in mind that we dedicate this first annual to Mr. Max Kaslo, who has given of himself completely these first two years. We are confident that he will continue to pro- vide the leadership that a high school such as Cortez deserves. Mr. Kaslo, it is your undivided attention to the needs, vvants, and welfare of the students that we salute in our dedication to you. 1 I , s x I. xx P ' ' ' W 5 fflf M, flfvfflxn 5 2 2 1 x I-fbfi A 5 ., f 1 asrx H21 gf'-'I' I9 ,L f xf ' 1 2 MJ ,V nv' x -1 wV xii 1 wr h AL 4 ., -gf- xx: P S Hx' f,1?' 5 . w fl' u f' l f' 1 N- ' ' , bij' -. fl!! 3 - -ll' W JM! 1 , -' ', K x A4- -. f 2 6 x -A l s 4 P 1 . They were well pleased with Cortez this year Cortez finished its first Varsity Season with a successful 7 win 2 loss record. The Colts played in Class A North, Eastern Division, in which they finished second to the Winslow Bulldogs. The loss to Winslow was in the early part of the season when the Colts were still relatively inexperienced-.'The only other loss was to Peoria, the first game of the season. As experie-nce was gained, the team improved greatly, taking over second place by whipping the favored Chandler 28-7.'The Colts got nothing but better as they met and beat all-comers, after their early losses. The season was climaxed by the upset of heavily-favored Glendale 27-13. This intra-district game was the one the boys really wanted to win. Cortez went into the game full of desire to win, which is what turned the tables on the be- wildered Cardinals. Pacing the Colts to their spectacular season were backs Rick Hendershot, Joel Barnhill, Don Dyer, and John Bushong. Hendershot carried for a total of 582 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, a new school record. Bushong and Barnhill followed with 473 yards and 443 yards, averaging 5.8 and 8.4 yards respectively. Dyer passed for 426 yards, averaging 42M completions. ln total points it was Barnhill, Hendershot, and Bushong, with 72, 48, and 29 points. Sireslzmrzrz Squad Left to right, ROW 1: G. Porter, J.
