fpzinaifza 0. P. DQUGLAS At the close of the school term, I wish to thank all of our students who have worked to make our school outstanding. The success of the school is best measured by the success of those who go out from its walls. There- fore may you continue to adhere to the finer principles of life. Your teachers have tried to provide the tools necessary for your con- tinued mental growth and success. Your suc- cess will come through trial and effort, cour- age, practice, hard work and incessant study. To the seniors I extent the best wishes for happiness and success. May your many tasks terminate into one big task well done. To the juniors and sophomores I wish for you a pleasant and profitable vacation. We are expecting you to bring further honors in athletics. literary work, and fine arts to C. H. S. next year. This book has recorded the accomplish- ments of C. H. S. for 1938-39 through sentence and picture. I congratulate the staff and students upon its organization, attrac- tiveness and merit. Sincerely. O. P. Douglas 9

f Le liifllfillllillf W. I-I. NOQWGGD TO 'lllli S'l'UDl2N'liS: Youth today is surrounded by a succes- sion of changing activities. Each individual must shoulder more responsibility for his behavior and for his relationship to his environment than at any time in past history. The road by which attainment is reached presents more competition. is more involved and intricate. and must be traveled faster, with fewer guide posts. Those who win must accept the law of adjustment: namely, the success of the indi- vidual is determined to an important degree by the ability to adapt himself to a changing environment. Achievement in the realm of conduct is on a higher plane than achievement in the realm of art or learning. Playing the game fairly, putting more into the treasury of life than one takes out, demanding more of one- self than one demands for himself. is on a higher plane or is more in line with the pur- pose for which this world was created than composing a symphony or discovering a new chemical element. 'lihose who expect to grow and achieve by the development of their own personal integrity will experience one of the greatest challenges of life. lt takes a great deal of lilexibility and courage in addition to knowl- edge to face the realitv of the present. 'lihe most thoughtful and the finest ol' our youth are attempting to meet this challenge earnest- lv. intelligently. and idealisticallv. Sincerel y. llh ll, .Xvorteootf 8
