The study of literature is intended to promote an intimate acquaintance with the masters and their Writ- ings in the important periods, to promote an intelligent interpretation and appreciation, and to cultivate genuine and permanent love for the finest prose and poetry. By supplementing the text book with facts of current science it also enables him to apply, to the living world, those principles which he learns. The Mathematics Department includes work in algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, trigonometry, commercial arithmetic and applied mathematics.
