The aim of the department is the acquisition of a ready personal command of the language studied. The history course covers the story of man from the early traces of life to the present time. Economics covers the general principles of economics and is designed to give the student some insight into the great economic movements of the present day. Civics gives a knowledge of the government of the United States, the rights and obligations of citizen- ship, etc. Page EI

This includes t l iii directing the city administration to assess and collect such taxes as are 'fi ' necessary for the operation of the school. The board is further authorized it to use such monies as may have been voted by the city in a bond election 'gl for the erection and equipping of the buildings. The election of teachers, QL? the outlining of policies of the school system, the expenditure of money for teachers' salaries and curriculum reorganization all come under the jurisdiction of the board. Corsicana is fortunate in having an efficient 5'1 board, the members of which are very vitally interested in every phase of lr l gif school activity, through the superintendent keeping in close contact with ki individual administrators.
