Not a soul was stirring except me and a mouse. My calculator was humming with precision and care, In hopes that my problem would turn out fair. The clock had just gonged the midnight hour. I jumped and looked up • I had been studying for six hours. My face was drawn I had eaten no food. My eyes were bloodshot, and I was in a bad mood. I heard the test was a hundred questions long. (I had a feeling I would get all of them wrong.) Problems, essays, true and false and completion Were jumbling inside my head, causing confusion. The notes in front of me started to blur. I couldn’t even understand what they were. I had to study, just an hour or two longer So that my confidence for that test would be stronger. My hands started shaking, my heart started pounding, I heard students' screams and my teachers’ chuckles’ resounding. In desparate frenzy I grabbed for the last hook, I realized it was the one my brother took. My confidence was shot, my mind went blank. All study was worthless, (my little brother to thank.) I went upstairs, my stomach was sour. My clock proudly displayed BIG TEST IN ONE HOUR! O K. Tyler the coast is clear, shove the broken test down the drain How about if we skip class and go fishing Future mad scientists performing a delicate experiment with caustic chemicals. 2 Futuristic advances in technology arc made through the use of computers: Jarrin Sperry is one of many students at Corry, who is becoming acquainted with the computer technology. HOMECOMING 1987 Homecoming 1987 was an exciting event, which involved the entire student body to promote school spirit. Monday was reverse day where students wore their pants, shirts, and ties inside out. Tuesday the halls were filled with orange and black. Wednesday was 50’s and 60's day, the halls looked like a rerun of Happy Days. The students looked like some of their mothers and fathers during their High School Days. Thursday was sports day. Students wore football, baseball, volleyball and cheerleading uniforms. Friday was class color war. Seniors wore white, juniors wore blue, sophomores worn green, freshman wore red, and even the Junior High students This yean crown bearer was Tommy Winched, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Winched. The flower girl of this years Homecoming was Jolene Daniels, daughter of Mr and Mrs Clinton Daniels. The year with spirit got in the action. The 8th grade was wearing blue, while, the 7th graders wore white. The winning class was the spirit filled senior class. Thursday night there was a bonfire led by the cheerleaders for the entire student body. The main purpose of the bonfire was to honor the football players and their coaches. Friday there was an afternoon assembly which involved the Princesses, Queen candidates, King candidates, and cheerleaders. Marc Reese was chosen as the King. Chris Burkhart was elected by the 10th grade to represent them during this years Homecoming activities. During the assembly she was escorted by Ryan Albers. Chris Is a J.V. wrestling cheerleader. Beth Bryndfson was the 11th grade princess chosen by the graduating class of 1988. She was escorted by Jeff Church during the Homecoming assembly. Beth a member of the Yearbook staff. 4 This years court included one sophomore, one junior, and six seniors. The members of the court were Chris Burkhart. Lisa Amoroso, Lee Bailey. Kellie Lindsey. Jodi Krone, Sherry Dingfelder, Shonda Koestner, and Beth Brynolfson Kellie Lindsey was crow ned Homecoming Queen of 1987. She Is an active member of student council and Is a co-captain of the Volleyball team. With elements of success In order for a team to Ik successful it must have three elements of success • skillful coaches, talented athletes and supportive fans. Corry High School can boast of its athletics because it possesses all of these tools of success. Before any team can form, it needs a coach. The coach must display qualities of leadership, determination and skill in order to be affective. At Corry we have these kinds of coaches. The athletes themselves should have natural abilities and school spirit in order to compete and defeat. Our athletes are competitive and strive to perform their very best. Not only do members of a team enjoy the thrills of performing, but they also have to endure long, hard practices, make sure to complete homework assignments and study for tests on school nights after hames or practices. Last of all, a team needs fans for supplying support and building confidence. Corry crowds are some of the most spirited in Erie County, and are very faithful to their teams. Faithful parents give much of their time and support to the athletes as well, by coming to the games, driving their sons or daughters to and from games and practices, and washing uniforms. In conclusion it can be said that Corry High athletes have the skill, will, and determination to win and the teams themselves have the winning combination to succeed. During the spring of 1987 Todd Knapp went to Florida to compete in the swimming nationals. The volleyball team had a rough start, however provided to be formidable later in the season, with such wins against Iroquois, Northwestern, and General Mcl-ane This year's football team, under the direction of Cbach John Wilson, ended their season with 5-3-i With determination and hard work they proved they could work together and be successful. Missy Broods. Co-Captain of the 8th (trade girls basketball team, had a personal record of 76 rebounds this year The Beaver defence, one of the strong points of the team this year, worked extremely hard throughout the Senior. Robin Curtis, has become the 2nd fastest runner In season. The powerful defense, allowed only a few touch downs pass them. They were successful in holding all the history of Cony High School the teams back 7 The Juniors did a great job of honoring the Seniors with another prom. Mr. Bennink and the junior class did an excellent job of decorating the gymnasium and making the entire evening possible, and creating a night to remember for all the Seniors. This year the gymnasium came alive with heart shaped ballons and blue, purple, and gold metalic streamers. Purple clouds covered the walls and large white chandelier-type balloons hung from the ceiling. This year's court included Chris Brooks escorted by Tim Smith. Kyra Kester was accompanied by Matt Upperman, Crystal Kreitz-bender escorted by Rob Elchynski, Barb Mancino was accompanied by Peter LeMajac, Penny Parder escorted by Mike Munsee, Mar- RENDEZVOUS WITH ROMANCE Prom 1987 garet Johnson accompanied by Jay Reese, Hollie Heilbrun escorted by Greg Schweitzer, and Leigh Ann Mitchell accompanied by Les I'tegg. Leigh Ann Mitchell was chosen queen. Her mother was crowned queen of her senior prom almost 30 years ago. Tom Sawyer was taking pictures in front of the large ballon arch to remember this special occasion. Later that evening the post prom was started at the Elk’s Club. There was dancing upstairs and gambling with bogus money downstairs. The Seniors and Juniors rocked Post prom king and queen. Dennis Muir and Julie Weis, look on as Mr. Benson hands out prizes to lucky Seniors and Juniors. Juniors, like Tammy Slye and Uni Greer, decorated for last year's successful prom. the night away for almost 5 Vi hours, onlly taking a break to see Dennis Muir and Julie Weis crowned king and queen of the post prom, and to hear Mr. Benson give out prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes included everything from gift certificates for free pizza to a portable television set and walkmans. The Juniors and Senior’s Rendezvous with Romance was truly a night to remember. Prom court member Chris Brooks. Prom court member Barb Mancino. The queen was crowned in front of the large balloon arch. For many of the students at CAMS, their day doesn't officially end when the bell rings at $U0 P.M. Even when they are worn-out from a hard day at school, they still have obligations to fulfill at work. Most really enjoy their work and view it either as a means of income or as a learning experience for use later on in life. Also, some students get jobs to “work with their friends and thus really enjoy working. How do parents feel about their children working? Some feel that it makes them more responsible while others are just glad to get the kids out of the house and making their own money. Usually students get a job in order to raise money for college or else to be able to have extra spending money. Although working usually doesn't allow for too much of a social life, it does have its benefits and the students enjoy the extra money, independence as well as added responsibilities. RIGHT Senior Yulonda Young has put in an average of 26 hours a week at Quality since she started working there during her senior year. TOP RIGHT Shonda Koestner always displays a friendly smile to her customers since she started working at Eckerd’s in August. BOTTOM RIGHT Tracey Wynn is a helpful cashier and all around good helper at G.C. Murphy’s. Ever since last summer Rick Anderson has been a willing worker and troublemaker at Quality Markets. If you want to know what really goes on behind the scenes in Bells just ask Christina Waite and Peter Lemajic. Seniors Ann Dunnewold and Kelli Stevens share their smiles to promote the Super Duper slogan We’re going to make you love us . .. 40 See how you are Jim always showing off your Quality smile. While Mike may often lie seen loading groceries, he also stocks shelves at Quality Markets. The McDonald's crew after a long night at work are ready to go home and get ready for another day. 41 Foreign Exchange Hej My name is lad Rasmussen. I'm from IVnmak. Timo 42 44 Students Visit DC 9th Graders Invade The Capital Washington D.C. ’87 March 17 thru 21,1987 marked the dates of the annual ninth grade excursion to Harrisburg, Gettysburg and Washington D.C. Approximately seventy students participated in the trip which is intended to give these students a first hand look at the workings of our state and national governments. This year’s group was one of the first to meet with newly elected governor, Robert P. Casey. He explained his work as governor and told of his goals for the next four years. Mark Singel. our newly elected Lieutenant Governor, found time to join our group along with Senator Peterson, Representatives Bowser and Bowley for lunch. He did a very good job answering questions and sharing his feelings of the first few months of being the second in command. While in the area we visited Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Station, a very interesting place. In Washington D.C. We toured all the usual historic and governmental places including the memorials, Capitol, White House, Arlington Cemetary etc. We were honored in Washington to see and talk to Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner-she was very impressive. Along with the historic and governmental places we also enjoyed the Washington National zoo, a subway ride, the Smithsonian, three theatre plays, and many other places in this very exciting city. Some memories of 1987 . . A) The unusual trip enjoyed bv John Lyon. B) Tracy Bcrkhous and Tawnya Diehl always sharing the the same toothbrush C) Mr Mitchell wanting to adopt Matt Allyn as his son. D) Heidi Walters touring the White House and not believing it was the W htte House. F.) The standing ovation our group gave the play The Mikado F) Trying to sneak pizza into the hotel. G) The quiet rememberance and sorrow we felt as we saw the Vietnam Memorial. H) Eating 76 McDonald's hamburgers during the 5 day trip. I) Understanding why Mr. Wilson is lasing his hair thanks to his visits to Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant for all these years J) Laughing so hard at the play Nun-seuse at Ford's Theatre, and getting to meet the actors after the play. K) The play at the Harlequin that put our entire group including Mr Mitchell into a state of unconsciouness. L) Kevin Frushone not getting into trouble M) Kelly McCray leaving her mark at the Red Roof Inn in Harissburg N) Being one of the best groups ever to go to Washington Debbie Hamilton, Lorie Anderson. After three days of sightseeing, shopping for .bargains, and sampling the native foods in the world's largest city (18 million people) the group took a long bus ride through Mexican desert and the city of Cuerna-vacca to Taxco, the silver city. Here everybody took advantage of the low silver prices before spending the night in a beautiful motel. The following day’s bus ride took the group to Acapulco, the famous Pacific resort, where the travelers spent their final three days enjoying the sun. sand, and surf. The following students participated in the trip to Mexico: Alan Proper, Mike Hrenko, Marc Reese, Randy Stultz. Bryan Ashby, Andy Steuart, John Nichols, Dean Sproveri, Eric Potocki, Greg Schweitzer, Chris Dyne, Cristina Waite, Charlene Hajec, Shelly Spoveri, Autumn McLel-lan. From Germany Going to a foreign country- is only a dream for most students, but in the summer of 87 this dream became a reality for seven Corry students. Through an exchange program several German students came to Corry for a month and stayed with some Corry students and their families. Then, this summer seven of these host students went to Germany for a month and stayed with the same students they hosted in Corry- These seven students, Kelly Williams, Cathy COrrell, Ed Schmitt, Rick VanderW'eele, Jared Als-dorf, John Lyon, and Jay Stranahan had a fun-filled month touring the beautiful country- of Germany. It’s the only time of the day when you can get out of your seat and talk without permission. The worst part of it is the terrible food. Sometimes it is quite hard to get it down and keep it there! That half hour goes by so fast. By the time you're through inhailing your so-called food, dodging all the flying objects and deafened by all the noise, the bell rings, and it’s times to back to the books! The Senior High students can go to their locker between every class and sometimes during their class. Maybe the teachers are trying to teach them responsibility-No-Maybe they are trying to build up their muscles for all the Senior High sports. But we still think it's unfair!! I think of what we went through planning, creating, and preparing a book of memories. Now, our work has dimmed somewhat over the past couple of months since our last deadline was met. Whatever the reaction to our book is by our classmates, we are still happy and proud of what we accomplished. It was just twenty of us meeting every school day and occationally evenings pulling together from nothing but ideas, a book of over 200 pages. We created a book that will always be a part of the history of our school. We slaved, argued, and fought with our administration over what could or could not be put in our book, and we sacrificed our grades and social life to give you the best book possible. Now at the end. we have done our very best. I am very poroud of our 1988 Corrian staff. I will miss all of you next year. I am not sure if I will want to work on the yearbook in college, but I am happy for what we have accomplished together. To the junior and sophomore staff members, good luck and never lose sight of the great contribution you are making to Corry High I would like to thank senior. Ann Gavazzi—your work and support was invaluable—thanks Ann! Of course I extend my gratitude and thanks to our advisor. Mr. Wilson. You are the one w ho makes this book possible every year. You have taught me many things, and you still encouraged me during the rough deadline times! You have taught me pride that will go with me for the rest of my life! Thanks Mr. Wilson!! ' ✓ - _ 7 Also, I must thank our Jostens representative, Mr. Larry Intihar who seemed to have all the answers to any problem we faced. And finally, thanks to that special group of twenty people of the 7th period yearbook class in room 208. We give you our best-CORRlAN 1988. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!! Throughout the season, various line-up changes and injuries hindered a few of the games, however, the five senior and one junior line-up still proved to be formidable in the eyes of many of their opponents. Each of the starters; Shar Baran, Ann Ga-vazzi, Cathy Correll. Kelly Lindsey, Lori Nadolny, and Kelly Williams have played volleyball since ninth grade and have played varsity since as early as ninth and tenth grades. They were aided by senior subs, Tammy Slye and Georgiana Roberts and new recruits such as Bridget Nelson, Sue Zaczkiewicz, Tracy Messinger and Wren Rasey. As said earlier, the season had a slow start, in which the first half of the season ended with a 4-5 standing. During the second half, the team, recharged and ready for a fresh start, ended with a 6-3 standing, finalizing the season with a 10-8 standing. The girls missed a spot in Districts by one loss, which was to General McLane. According to Coach Craker, ‘‘The girls played well; and hard. One of the many highlights of the season was the 6-0 overtime win over the eventual Erie County champions Fort Le Bocuf Bisons The great defense of the Beavers was always a highlight of each game Giving up an average of 7 points per game, the defensive unit made up of Ginn. The highlight of the season this far was the team championship in the tough North East Tournament. The Beavers avenged an earlier loss to Fort LeBoeuf by edging them out for the title. It was a total team effort with eight wrestlers placing in the top four. Jon Palmer was the lone champion with Todd Cox and Chris Lutton placing second. Mark Frushone. Early in the season the wins were few, but even then, the spirit of the team was evident. Their never-say-die attitude was the reason that by the 2nd half of the season, they proved that they could play head to head with some of the best teams in the E.C.L. This spirited group was led by senior. Lee Bailey. The high scorer was junior, l ri Nadolny. Sharing the load in collecting rebounds were sophomore, Wren Rasey. and juniors Dori Alsdorf. and Brenda Williams. The starting five receivers had plenty of support from sophomores Heidi Walters and Lynn Vinca, and freshmen Cherie Varrassa and Amy Stranahan. Their talent and attitude should begin a tradition of successful girls's basketball teams in the years to come. 170 Lori Nadolny drives for two. Wren Rasey: one of the Twin Towers , goes up strong. Girls J.V.’s started the season with a very inexperienced squad fielding only two sophomores. The inexperience was evident in the earlier games as the J.V.’s dropped seven out of their first nine games. As the freshmen were developing better team and individual skills, the J.V.'s lost two of their starting guards through severe foot injuries. Nonetheless, the remaining girls were able to pull together as a competitive cohesive unit to win five out of the next eight games. Our two sophomores provided rebound ing inside and speed on the outside. Heidi Walters led the team with rebounds and was a constant offensive threat posting up uguinst oppocnts and averaging six points a game. Until her injury Lynn Vinca averaged five points a game and was strong defensively. The ninth grade unit well provided excellent experiance and balance for next years. J.V. team and Corry will continue to be a dominant force in the junior league. Pennsylvania 16407 814 665-8297 To the Seniors: As graduation approaches, I find myself sitting back in my chair and thinking, What i3 special about this Senior Class? with the Class of 1988 that was easy. Your class, more than any that I've known, has made a difference . The list goes on--enthusiasm, spirit, dedication, leadership, understanding, lightness, darkness and, of course, love. As Whitney Houston said in her song, The Greatest Love of All , the groatest lovo you can givo is the love you give yourself. With this love for yourself, the Possibilities are Endless , you can make a difference. You do make a difference, each and every one of you. If you give up, if you feel that you cannot make a difference, then the difference you make will be a negative one. If, however, you know that what you do now will have an effect tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, then you will do your best at all times, and that best will make a positive and glowing contribution to the world. It has been said that to get anywhere in this world, you have to know someone important. I think that's true. You do have to know someone important--you have to know yourself. Knowing yourself, knowing what you can and cannot do, and trying to do your best in each and every situation, believing that what you do today is important and will affect tomorrow. The possibilities are endless if you love and believe in yourself. Best Wishes to the Class of 1988. 227 “This Was Just A Place Of Passing” Tht uxLt, juAt a p ice oh patting A necettaiy itec to be taken to neach fughci go alt You we ie jutt h uendLi ch patting the. necettany love To canny me to tea’ love.
