Shonda and Bob Shyest Foreign Exchange Students Mare Potet and Mortn Angarita My name is Marie Dominique Poiet. I am from Brusseles, Belgium. During this year in Corry I am staying with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mack and their daughter Katrina. I’m really enjoying my stay here. I like sports very much and this is one of the reasons why I like this school. Sports are considered very important and practices are so much better than at my school in Belgium where we only had two hours a week of practice and one or two meets a year. My plans in coming here were to learn about the people and the way they live, and to travel and see the country which I have already done by visiting Niagara Falls. Penn State, and above all — Florida with the Macks. What I want most is to make a lot of friends, meet a lot of people, and offer an opportunity to come to Belgium and stay with my family. I would like to thank everyone for making this year wonderful for me. I enjoyed myself very much and I appreciate all the friendliness of all the people. Thanks to all of you! Hello Corry! My name is Martin Angarita. I am a foreign exchange student from Cucuta. Columbia spending my senior year in Corry. Pennsylvania. During my stay in Corry I am living with Mr. and Mrs. George Fox. They have made me feel right at home. All the people I have met in Corry have been so nice to me especially the students and my teachers. They have all helped me to improve my English and to succeed in my other courses. The courses in Corry are much more difficult than the ones I have had in Cucuta. You emphasize more math and science. I am now taking part in a new experience for me — wrestling. I went out for the wrestling team thanks to the urging of my friends. Corry has a great wrestling team. I hope to go out for the track team in the Spring. In March. I am looking forward to visiting your great Capital city — Washington. D.C. when I participate in a field trip there. I have enjoyed my stay very much in Corry. I have made many new friends that I will miss very much when I leave. 38 Marie Hasta Luego Martin Corry Row 1: Chris Zaphris. John Scherzer. Keith Morris. Corry had another short team (three starters under 5'5 ). Early into the season, extended illnesses took out three players, two from the starting five. Corry entered most games with only nine players, two of whom were freshmen who had already played 28 minutes in the J.V. game Nonetheless the varsity girls never gave up and never were they taken for granted by opponents. Despite their shortness, the Beaverettes managed to outrebound opponents in three- [ fourths of their games Sea or Sheila Steuart was vastly improved over last year. She scored an average of 5 pts game, led the team m blocked shots, and had the second highest ru™«..v,B 8 r.p.g. Our other senior. Julie Zajac had a frustrating season with illness and Injuries. She had her best game against Iroquois hitting for 12 points on five field and two fouls. Corry The 83-84 Team showcased a devastating press that ran uprepared teams off the court utilizing alt ten players, defensive pressure was the cornerstone of this team. This team will be remembered as one of the most balanced teams in Corry history. All players were capable of scoring and the overall team height and speed humbled many opponents. Highlighting the season was the fact that Corry once again made the District 10 playoffs and will have the opportunity to defend the previous years District 10 Championship. Basketball This years’ J.V. Basketball Team, although not long on talent was very long on desire. Hard work was certainly their middle name. We would like to especially thank Kris Hotchkiss for her hours of devotion to make our book a success. Kris was like our 5th editor since she was always there when we needed her. We would also like to thank Scott Carlstrom for taking almost all our photographs this year. Without a photographer we would have a boring yearbook. Michele Buckshaw, Penny Nichols, Joanie Davis and Denyse Frushone also deserve thanks for their help. We'd like to thank Kim Cmiel. Darla Fralick and Michelle Sibbte for their typing and work on the homeroom pages. Special thanks to Stacey Shreve for being our treasurer. Thanks goes out to everyone else too. 145 Corrian Staff 1983-1984 Editors: Charlie. Leanna. ton. Rob The Yearbook Staff is a small group of very dedicated and hardworking students, mostly seniors, who had the huge task of putting together the second largest yearbook in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Besides the frequent announcements over the loud speaker few students are aware of the continuing after school and evening meetings of this group. Starting in May and going through the Summer. Fall, and Winter seasons these students spend countless, thankless hours in attempting to preserve the memories of the school year 1983-84. Their thanks is limited to the self-satisfaction of creating a book that will be apart of this school’s memories forever. They don’t even receive a free yearbook for all their hard work. The faculty, administration and especially the student body owe these people a great debt of gratitude for their very long endeavor. JJW Row 1. Left to Right: Anna Lindstrom. Denyse Frushone. After taking the course and going to the Sports Medicine Training Camp at Kent State in Ohio during the summer, the students can become an athletic trainer for a varsity sport. The trainers and Mr. Bennink volunteer their time to help the coaches care for injured athletes and get them back to active participation as soon as possible. 174 Good Earthlings Through various fund-raisers, such as the operation of the concession stand, and annual Poinsettia sale, and candy sales, the Good Earthlings are able to have several one-day outings and a one-week outing during the year. The Model United Nations Club represented the Islamic Republic of Iran at Gannon University. In representing this country, Corry students had to role-play true Iranian positions and ideology concerning such issues as Nuclear Arms Control. The Central American Crisis and many more. Students are required to submit a 1,000 word essay, to be submitted to Gannon, as part of their requirements to belong to Model U.N. Based on performance at Gannon. Rob Burton was one of 8 students selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship to Gannon. Considering the Gannon Model U.N. has 700 students from the Tri-State area participating, we arc quite proud of Rob. When the studies and research of Gannon have subsided, its New York City bound. This year 4 exciting days in the “Big Apple were enjoyed over Easter vacation. From Broadway theatres, a Central Park carriage ride, shopping at Saks and dinner at Mama Leones, an educational experience was enjoyed by all. 178 School Pride As the hills of Pennsylvania Rise to skies of blue, So ascends our veneration, Corry High, to you. Let the chorus swell in anthems, Far and loud and long, Corry High School and her glory, Ever be our song. There amid the busy humming Of our city fair, Proudly stands the old High Building Tis for her we care. Though from here our paths may sever Distant unknown ways, Still abides the memory ever, Of our High School Days. Raise the chorus, speed it onward, Till the echoes flee, Here’s a cheer for Corry High School Hail, — all hail to thee. Many times we take being at Corry High School for granted, this page is designed to help us remember why we are all here. 179 9th Grade Tri-Hi-Y Ftoni. Amber Ashby. Marge Fuch. Km Sheppard. Row 2.
