A SATIRE ON HIGH SCHOOL PROFESSORS Don’t say il this way - that is wrong; Say “less short” instead of more long.” Don’t invent your own words; here's the dictionary shelf. Don’t spell on your fingers - you don’t have enough. Don’t call us old — we’re but thrice your age; And don’t say “ain’t” (that’s our privilege). Don’t dream out the window — use the blocks on the floor. Try using your head - that’s what it’s for. You can’t chew gum and talk - don't try it please; Just step to the front and make speeches with ease. Don’t say “by the year” — use annually.” And don't say “ain’t’’ (that’s our privilege). You can’t pull any tricks — we tried it once, too. Don’t try to be smart — we’re all on to you. You can’t fool us because wc know it all — You see, we have practiced since we were small. Never use slang — it defiles your language; And don’t say “ain’t” (that’s our privilege). By Karen Cooney
