Lawrence M. Douglas, D. Ed ..... Dual Monarchy SUPERINTENDENT As we work with young people over a long period of years, our understanding of them develops and we learn to know the difficulties they face. We see essentially the same problems being met by suc- ceeding groups and have an opportunity to watch character development as the problems are solved. We know that graduation from high school requires not only ability, but also the determination to succeed, and the strength to withstand temptations to give up by turning to some seemingly easier path. So it is a happy occasion for us when we can certify that you have successfully completed this important step in your progress. Our responsibility for your education is a heavy one. So much depends on the influences surrounding these formative years. Our con- cern is not only with the things you learn but even to a greater extent with the attitudes that you form. Your future happiness and the extent of your contribution to the world are dependent not only on your knowledge of things but also upon your ability to live effectively with others. We hope that we have performed our part well and that your school experience leads you to a good life. May I congratulate you for having successfully completed your high school work. L. M. DOUGLAS There were two mon in our town, And they were wond'x-ous wise. 6

Dual Monarchy .......... Howard J. Sheen l PRINCIPAL Message to Seniors: In these trying times of high international tensions and war scares, it is hard to plan a life course. You seniors are bound to be apprehensive of your future vocational careers for you do not know if and when you will be called into ser-vice. The best plan to follow is to include the service time that will be devoted for this purpose and look beyond the period enlistment or draft. If you plan to attend college or have other vocational plans, yow should continue with those plans, for even if youeare called into service, it is always possible to pick up your interrupted, educational plans when you return. You seniors will be the citizens of tomorrow and it will be your duty and privilege to carry on the functions of local, state, and federal govern- ments and activities. You should be prepared for these irnportant duties by the education that you receive in high school, college, and other walks of life. The faculty and I wish to congratulate you upon the successful corn- pletion of your high school course and extend to you our best wishes for a successful future. HOWARD f. SHEEN There were two men in om' town, And they were w0nd'1'ous wise. '7 I
