Tis for her we care. Let the chorus swell in anthems, Though from here our paths may sever Far and loud and long, Distant unknown ways, Corry High School and her glory, Still abides the memory ever, Ever be our song. Of our High School Days. Chorus- Raise the chorus, speed it onward Till the echoes flee, A Here's a cheer for Corry High School Hail,-all hail to thee. 2 We Honor . . Mrs. May McCormick K DEDICATION The 1951 Corrian is respectfully dedicated to Mrs. May McCormick. Affectionally known to her host of friends as Auntie Mayv, Mrs. McCor- mich is a continual source of help to the students in all departments and a valuable aid to those enrolled in the commercial classes. It is with a deep sense of appreciation that we honor her at this time. 3 We Welcome Superintendent Lawrence Nl. Douglas, D Ed 1 The control of the important positions in our society rests now in the hands of those who have preceded you. Your heritage has been fashioned for you by others and you have no choice but to accept it. Soon members of your generation will occupy the positions of leadership in every field and will determine the direction mankind will go. After a few comparatively short years you in turn must relinquish control to the generation which will follow and pass on to them their heritage. However, you will have the op- portunity and the obligation to mal-ce this heritage better than the one you received. So many problems remain unsolved in every area that your best efforts are urgently needed. May you have the courage to live constructively and the wisdom to selert the right way so that your lives may be happy and that those who live after you will not suffer for your mistakes or neglect. Graduation from high school has been an important objective for you. I congratulate you upon the attainment of that goal and assure you of my good wishes for your happiness and success. L. M. Douglas ' 4 We Salute . . Principal Howard J. Sheen 1 Members of the Class of 1951: In a very short time you will be graduating from high school and will be planning what your next vocational step will be. Many of you will go to work, some will go to college, many will take nursing courses and some will be married. Regardless of what your vocational plans are you should keep in mind that your education is not completed when you graduate-it should be continued all of your life. Good books to read, travel, interesting hobbies and the will to do a good job, add to the zest of living. We are now living in a world of tension and it is imperative that we have intelligent citizens to analyze our problems and f ind successful solutions to them. In two or three years all of you will have the right to vote and by this right determine what our world status will be. These decisions and many others of like nature will be yours to make. Be prepared for them. I wish to extend my congratulations to you upon your graduation and wish you every success. Howard f. Sheen 5 We Appreciate . . Mr. Lloyd Matson V 1 1 The members of the class of 1951 wish to express their appreciation to Mr. Lloyd Matson for his kind help and inspiration. Mr. Matson, who has won the respect and admiration of everyone, leaves his teaching position in J une, 1951. As he leaves, may we assure him of our best wishes for happiness in his new field of endeavor. 6 The Corry Senlor Hlgh School Faculty Raymond Barstow Ruth Bennett F. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY THROUGH THE YEARS Sophomore Year President james Daniels Vice President William Coleman Secretary ,lean Merriman Treasurer Frank Ross On a warm, sunny, never-to-be forgotten day in Sep- tember, I94B, the sophomores entered the doors of Cor- ry Senior High School. We shook in our shoes for fear we might get lost or confused in the vast halls of higher learning. We managed to get by without too much trouble, and soon elected our very capable class officers. As sophomores we tried to live up to the standards set for us, and felt we succeeded very well. Our junior year found us happily engaged in studies, and work concerning the junior Prom. We succeeded Senior Year Bradley Baker Eugene Sharer Walter Sweet jean Merriman Junior Year Bradley Baker Eugene Sharer Walter Sweet Robert Clark in producing the fine play, The High School Mystery , which was directed by Mr. Philip Legal. The Prom was an outstanding event and was en- joyed by everyone. Decorations at the junior High School were reported to have been most outstanding. When we returned to school in September, l950, we tried to make the most of our time. This class was determined not to leave any of its members behind. Although we are leaving our Alma Mater, we will always remember, wherever we may be in the world, the memories of good times we had in good old C.H.S. Football Snaps and Football Assembly Play. Richard Lee After that first nervous day in September, 1949, we fell in love with our Alma Mater and proceeded to elect our officers for our first year in Senior High. With the help of our class officers, Donald Bagley, Dixie Nichols, Mary Helen Curtis, and Donna Whaley, we had a very successful year. September, 1950, found us jumping right into the swing of things, for we knew we had big things to accomplish. Our first great affair was the class play, f'The Cannibal Queen , in which all members of the cast were a great success. ln years to come we will continue to remember Sophie Sander as the Cannibal Queen who followed Max Bennink all the way from the Solomon Island, but who de- serted him in favor of her new head man, Paul Suchar. Super salesmen in the ticket selling contest for the class play, and the number of tickets they sold follow: Shirley Hall-74, John Rozelle452, Betty Humes--43, Donald Bagley-Y-20, and Dorothy Ayers-19, Lucille Beckwith, Nancy Wood, Mary Helen Curtis, and Janet Orcutt con- tributed their bit to community life by acting in a skit, 'tMrs. Scattershot So- licits , which started the annual Red Cross Fund Drive. As the Corrian goes to press, we are starting work on our Prom which is to be held on March 29, 1951, and which promises to be one of the best ever held. Mrs. Mary Jourdet Greetings to all other Bookworms: This has been a very eventful year for the Library Club. As my wife. Hermie, and I look in on the twenty five members of the club, we find that many new books have been added, offering a wide selection to every student. We also find that a new system has been put in operation, Two girls are on duty at the library desk, one girl signs out the books to the students, while the other girl takes care of the books that are being returned. There is someone on duty in the Library before and after school and during the noon hour, as well as during study periods throughout the day. During club periods, the girls mend books and get new ones ready to be placed on the shelves. Easter finds the girls busy with the preparations for the annual Easter Egg Hunt, 'lhe proceeds from this gala affair help to buy new books for the students to use. . A candy sale and a number of small parties, scheduled at various 'times during the year, offer a lot of fun to offset the great amount of work done by the club members. , Another year has slipped by and so my little family and I will resort to a long, quiet, and peaceful summer, crawling up and down the shelves. VVormly yours, Oogie P.S. Follow our advice and devour as many books as possible during the sum- mer. You, too, can become a bookworm. 46 Senior Editor . . . Junior Editor . . . Sports Reporters .. One big undertaking during the year was the selling of Christmas trees. This necessitated a trip to the Woods at the early hour of five o'clock A.M., and found many sleepy students in school the rest of the clay. Social activities were confined to swimming parties and tureen suppers. Several members also attended rallies held in other parts of the district.
