y € U T in I know but little of the pilgrimage I’m to make From the cradle to the grave, though I retrace The history of the race day by day. Its faults, its fears, its hopes, its cheers are mine. ’Tis mine its ills to overcome, its blessings to enjoy. Be the journey what it may, sad or gay, The visions of childhood’s yesterday are But the realities of youth’s today. Hard, I find my childhood dreams to Lay aside; to adjust myself to perplexities Now is more than I can do. What of the future? Plan I for tomorrow? I Dimly hope and dream the not-distant-years. I cannot fathom my lot twenty years hence, Too few highway-signs point the way. Aim I high, L need not fear. Fond memories will be dear. The past is gone, the present here. THIS year of 1931 may go down in history as a depressing and discouraging one, but the Class of 1931 has never been a discouraging one to the faculty nor has it been depressed in its ventures. The editing of this year book, which is a test in a normal year, has had its setbacks and I feel that the staff and its advisers deserve more than honorable mention for such a fine edition. The BEAVERS have been at work. You will note their gnawing around the edges of these several pages. This energetic little animal is noted for its construction, not only of dams but of dwelling places. His constant “sawing of wood” slowly but surely, helps him to dam up the stream of events until the larger and more powerful animals like the Dragons, Wolverines, Lions and Panthers must hunt for higher ground. It is the earnest desire of your present coach that as you become older and more accomplished you may look back to this year and your High Schools days, feeling you have lived up to the attributes of the Beaver. —Sedric Abbot McCall Four
