PIE EEUNG Pie eating, ugly legs and sexy lips contests were all a part of Homecoming. Untimely holi- days delayed the event from October 26 until November 6. Fireworks were displayed while choral director, Mike Merrifield sang the Star Span- gled Bannerf' During half-time Merrifield also sang the school hymn while a red carpet was . rolled out for the crowning of the Royalty. Clubs were allowed to enter float competition this year. i Fl-AVOIZQ l-I OA Battling for the semi-finals in the pie eating contest are seniors, john Norris and jerry Vasquez. This was a new event added to homecoming. OB After finishing off his winning pie, jerry Vasquez begins to clean off his face, jerry won the semi- finals and went on to the finals, OC Don's Band window placed first in the club window competi- ,wi .ll tion. ID To conserve gasoline the senior class 20 Homecoming made their float to be carried. The float placed second in class competition. OE Corey Croft and Don Whitlach were crowned during half-time. OF Building the bonfire- became one of the big tasks before the evening pep assembly. OC Doug Wal- lace buys a Carnation from Kim Loughary and Norma Davis. 1 T 5 DUE CTO EXERGY IRISIS ENERGY CIZIQIQ CYXUQEQ QI-lOl-UZKGEQ OF FUEL Cold classrooms, darkened hallways, a blacked-out cam- pus at night and fewer cars in the parking lots were just a few of the signs that something unusual was happening. The something was referred to by the Nixon administration as an Energy Crisis . Due to precautionary regula- tions which were set by the President, all school thermos- tats were locked at 68 degrees. The rapid rise in gasoline prices forced many driyers to form car pools, walk, ride bicy- cles, as well as to wait in lines many blocks long to buy gaso- line. OA Signs reading Out ot' Cas were placed at almost every gas station due to the energy cri- sis. Some lights in stores were turned off to save electricity while others closed earlier in the day. OH A common sight in some class- rooms was that of students with coats and sweaters to keep warm in the 68 degree temp- erature, CC Tanks were filled whenever drivers found open gas stations.
