Hermia was portrayed by Dana Pugh and Lysander was Keith Miller, OB Greeting the bus at 6 a.m. were students enrolled in this year's summer school. OC On August 20 the bookstore opened for students who wanted to buy books early. OD Football practice was held during August in the morning and late after- noon to avoid the heat. Senior, Rob Wilson practices his passing. OE Barry Brian, Pam High and Darrell Hadder along with other members of Don's Band and Donettes attended a camp in California, OF In june the newspaper and yearbook staffs went to an AIPA workshop. Trail Editor, Carol Worcester goes down Slide Rock in Sedona. OG Varsity Cheerleaders Gail Bruce, Jody Taggert and Karol Kjestad hear the presentation of cheer award. F Summer Activities 17

QIUDENTQ LEAVE CUYPOIZ CAMP, PPJODUCEPLAY journalism students from all over Arizona and the South- vvest spent ten days at a Publi- cations Workshop on the NAU campus in Flagstaff. Larry l-lal- bert, Explorer and Trail advisor, attended as a teacher. A Midsummer Night's Dream vvas presented by the Summer School Fine Arts class on luly 25 and 28. Courses vvere also held in music and . band in addition to regular subjects. Placing second runner-up in the state cheer competition were the Varsity Cheerleaders. Cheer camp vvas held at NAU. Early August found the Donfs band and Donettes traveling to Carlsbad,Californiafor some additional marching practice. Visiting the city dump and sec- tions of Fifth Avenue were part of the rehearsals for Neil Simon's The Odd Couple presented November 8-10 and again in April and May. Besides regular rehearsals, director james Newcomer tried a new concept in directing. To get in the mood the cast members visited the dump for the first scene for a feeling of dirt. Then, for the second scene they went to a Fifth Ave. shop for a clean effect. OA Staring astoundedly at Vinnie iMike Waitej as he tells how nice it is to have a clean place to play cards and some good food to nibble on are Speed ITM. Stumpj, Oscar Uim Fordl and Murray iDavid Goldsteinj. OB Felix iMike Bainj explains to Oscar the facts about keeping a clean house. OC To achieve the mood for the first scene of the play cast members of The Odd Couple go to the city dump. OD Clearing out his sinuses after being kicked out of his house by his wife is Felix Ungar, OE Setting up props, helping with make-up, making the cos- tumes, doing the sound effects and all the other behind the scenes jobs helped add life to the play. Properties. head Sue DeBree and crew member Bill Ferrell set up the table for the second scene. 'F Oscar Madison points an accusing finger after Felix starts taking over his apartment, poker game and his life. OG After inviting Gwendolyn and Cecily Pigeon iPam Hallmark and Linda Baileyj over to cheer Felix up, Oscar makes the sisters feel at home. l Q. 18 The Odd Couple
