dons capture league division crown After beating the Mesa .Jack- rabbits 21-19 for the Central Division title, the varsity football team took on the undefeated Central Bobcats in semi-final state play. Coronado kept a 7- O lead up until the fourth quar- ter when Central scored on a short pass. With no time left and the score tied 7-7 the Ari- zona Playoff rule was put into effect. Central ran up the most yards in their alloted time and therefore won the game. The Dons ended their season tied for third in state. la Brian Chatham, senior, discusses his next play with Coach Les Finger who sat in the ASU press box during the Central game. lb Ted McDonald and John Mannion bring down a Mesa runner during the divisional game. The Dons upset undefeated McClintock in a game televised throughout the state. After beating Kofa and Scotts- dale, the gridders faced a three-way Colorado playoff with Westwood and IVloCIintook for the league title. But West- wood lost its last gameg and since the Dons had already beaten McClintock, Coronado was awarded the Central Divi- sion B League title. ld Tight end Dale Ftusnak, senior, tries to break a Westwood tackle after catching a pass.
