opening plag portrags life of deaf. bIind.mute child Miracle Worker based on the life story of Helen Keller, was the first production of the Fine Arts department. The play had originally been done at Coro- nado in 1968. Miracle Worker was presented in the auditorium November 2 and 4. Special effects, such as, recorded voices and film flicks were used to present the past life of Annie Sullivan, the one person who had enough patience to teach Helen how to Da Listening to the criticisms of director Judie Carroll, the cast and crew of Miracle Worker take notes during a dress rehearsal. 0b Annie Sullivan CCindy Gilbertj receives a gift from her friends at the school for the blind. Oc Having chased the Keller family from their house, Annie proceeds to teach Helen CJody Taggartj proper table manners . ld Locked in her room by a mischievious Helen, Miss Annie is rescued from her second story room by a chi- valrous Captain Keller CJoe Brlnnonj. le New hope for mute, dumb and blind Helen is seen when Kate fNancy Kelleyj says My Helen, folded her napking she can learn. lf Seeing only one way to quiet Helen down, Annie makes use of the surrounding dining room tableware and throws water on Helen. Annie finds Helen to be a very spoiled child and asks if she may have two weeks alone with the child to teach her. After two weeks with Helen, Annie is not satisfied by Helen's accomplishments. seniors initiate freshmen as howdg week tradition Typical Howdy Week activities were seen on campus the first week of school. The seniors made freshmen push pennies, sing the fight song and face embarrassing situations. Freshmen who were caught not wearing a howdy card were punished by having to attend the Kangaroo Court. Senior .Justice Dane Traines said lt worked out better than expected, and the freshmen co-operated fairly well. l l Freshmen at the end of Howdy Week got acquainted at the Howdy Hop. The dance was held in the gymnasium, Friday, September 8, after an inter- squad football game. Pat Curtis and Laura Zepeda were crowned Howdy King and Queen before the dance got underway. The Queen had to do an impression of Ed Sullivan while the King had to push pennies. The senior class sponsored the dance and Tubesteak provided the music. Od Getting the Howdy Hop started by singing a I fast song is Jim Giorsetti, lead singer for Tubesteak, a local band. le Pat Curtis, after being crowned Howdy King reigns over the dance. Of Laura Zepeda was crowned Howdy Oueen after proposing to Mark DeBree, senior president. Og Between classes seniors make four freshmen have a wheel barrel race.
