Included in the eight who enrolled were: Dorothy Schulte, Verda Pew, Ann Fenhaus, Shirlee Jorgenson, Glen Zeigler,Ralph Seehafer, Stephen Van Cleve,and5B1lly Wilde. We were just a bit shy, and maybe a little curious as to how we would be accepted in high school, It d1dn't take long to find out as we were soon initiated. The class once increased to nine, when Margaret Hall- stein joined our ranks: it wasn't for long though, as Stephen Van Cleve transferred to Wilmot. We managed to live through our freshmen year, but all the while we were quite envious of our upperclassmen. Sophomores: Our little group were no longer the green freshmen of C.H.S. We felt superior to the freshmen but longed for the title of upperclassmen. During the second :semester cur number was diminished toe seven as Shirlee Jorgensen transferred to Hazel. Time went on though and soon the year was only a memory. Juniors: Eureka! We are upperclassmen! Enrollment day Maas saddened by the fact that Margaret Hallssein had trans- ferred to Raymond,South Dakota, reducing our class to six. This, however, did not dim our enthusiasm because we were soon busy with the many Junior-Senior activities. We received our rings and proudly flashed them be- neath the nose of the underclassmen, and then one day we arrived in school to find the seniors gone., Oh, how this made us yearn for the day when we too could skip school without an excuse. We just wouldn't be satisfied until we could call ourselves mighty seniors. Seniors: At Last! We were dignified seniors. We were now en- titled to little privileges and believe me we took advant- age of it, but as the year passed an we began to realize that soon we would leave Corona High and never return as students. That thought was not a happy one, although we had grumbled and complained constantly about school being a grind. I'm sure none of us would trade those four wonderful years for anything. No amount of writing could tell all the things we remember of our years in high school. We will carry these memories with us and perhaps sometime we will think back to them and smile fondly, and wish that we could turn back the years and live once more those happy years in Corona High. CLASS PROPHEGY As I guided my F86 Sabre Jet onto the landing strip at Corona Central airport, my heart was in my mouth. All the way from Japan I had been wondering how many of my old classmates I would find around home. I received landing instructions and came down to a neat three-point landing that surprised even myself. Boy, these last 20 years in the Air Force had really taught me something. And how the town had grown! As I reported in at the information office, I heard an angry yetbfamillar voice come over the intercom. It said, nWho was that crazy boob that just came in handling that plane like a tr1cycle?u Then I recognized the voice and rushed past the guard and into the office that said nprivate' above the door. There, 1n'a very plush chair, with his feet on a rich ma- hogany desk sat my old pal Ly. Gen. Ralph Seehafer! He explained that he had Joined up with the Air Force a year or so after I had, and had applied for a Job close to home so he could farm in between missions. He took me in his private helicopter and after showing me a b1sd's eye view of the town and new school he plunked it down right on top of the fanciest house in town!!! Two little girls came running up through a trap door on the roof and grabbed him and called him Daddynfi After meeting his beautiful wife and eating my fill of her cooking we set- tled down for a good long chat. He hadn't heard of any of our school pals except that he thought Verda was working down in Missouri and thought that I should try to get a job in the states too so, as he put it, we could keep within a few thousand miles any- way. The next morning after a delicious breakfast I re- fueled and took off for St. Louis,M1ssourl. I was hamper- ed by gog and had to put down at Kansas City instead. As I was eating lunch in a small cafe not far from the air- port, a very ritzy looking lady sauntered ln. A French poodle was leading her as would a St. Bernard. Apparent- ly he d1dn't like my looks because he came over and bit me so hard I fell off the stool. While she was -agologizn ing and I was trying hard not to get angry at suc a well mannered lady, a fine gentleman walked in right behind her and said UI've parked the car right out front, Ann, did you order our lunchnd r Ann? Did he say Ann? Why sure enough, here it was my old schoodmate Ann Fenhaus. What was she doing? Well, she and her husband Jaques were leaving for a n-vacation in Paris on her husband's luxury liner. We lunched together and I was pleased to find that Jaques was running competition with Michelangelo in the world of Art, and that Jakie and Janie, their twins, were starring at different night clubs with sxhLb1t1on.ba1let. Ann d1dn't know where any of the classmates were but as she put it, 'It would be tres bonne Just to see them a ain.n g After seeing them off, I took my badly barked shin and hobbled to the nearest hospital to see what they could do about the sweyllng. That confounded cur!!! While I was sitting in the waiting room, I heard the worst scolding going on in one of the rooms that I have heard since Mr. Jordre gave me my last one for putting spitballs on the ceiling. I asked an intern who passed by what was going on. He said it was just the new head nurse, who always told off patients who came to her with such minor ail- ments as cuts and bruises: must be Irish to have a temper like that I remarked to myself. After that I d1dn't know if I'd have her look at my leg or not. Well!!! She couldn't have been more Irish if she had floated all the way from good old Dublin! It was Verda Pew!!! She didn't recognize me at first and just gave me a royal going over for not coming sooner remarking, Ulf you were going to walt this long why did! nt you fix it yourself?W She fixed it up forwme, thodgh, swlth atoms stuff that really hurt and I told her so. She told me it was just the germs calling for HELFI When I signed a blank at her desk4 ---- well, did she look! Recognizing me immediately she apologized for the scolding. I noticed she was wear- ing a diamond as big as a prune and when I mentioned lt, she merely blushed and said, UHe's in o1l.U She explained that it wouldn?t be too long until the happy day but there would still be nursing to be done, because she was to be head nurse in her husband's private hospital for his employees. Verde hadn't heard of any of the old schoolmates but planned on looking them all up when they went on their honeymoon. I left the hospital then, and went to the airport to get a report on the weather and look around. The tower told me that the fog would raise by morning or early afternoon. The field was clear of all transports except one that had just made the last leg of its flight and had flown on instruments all the way. I watched them unload and thought how we had done just that, when we went on our SKIP DAY when we were seniors. I also remembered that Dorothy Schulte had wanted to be a stewardess ..... Wonder if she ever attained the goal? Well I d1dn't have to wonder long because strolling out of the plane and across the runway came the stewardess herself, Dorothy. She explained that she was riding the regular flight from Los Angeles to Kansas City. We had supper together and she explained that her stewardess's career would he drawing to a close because Wsomeonen back homen had been writing pretty nice letters and had persuaded her to come back to help do his chores. I had a pretty good idea who it was and she blushed as she showed me the diamond and salg that he had driven all the way down just to give it to er. I When I asked if she knew where Billy was, she said why certainly haven't you heard? He has a large wheat ranch about 150 miles south of here. She said it was all marked for airplanes and that he had his own airport. I bid her good-bye. The next morning dawned bright and clear. . As I was about to board my plane, a page boy came run- hing across the field calling my name. He had a message from Lt. Gen. Seehafer who was sending word that I was to start work with Douglas experimental aircraft in Los Angeles. I guess he meant what he said about keeping the gang within a nfew thousand milesn but that was Just fine with me cause it meant more pay to boot. Half an hour later I was landing on SUNNY ACRES AIR- BORT Cthree thousand acres! and they all belonged to Bill Wilde. I received a hearty welcome, and after meeting lhts lovely wife, Jessica, and three sons, Tom, Dick, and Jim, they took me quietly into the nursery to show me the new- est additlon, little Jessica, Junior. The rest of the day was spent in looking over B1lly's fifteen hundred head of cattle and fishing in a mountain stream that ran right past his house. Billy had served his time in the Marines and then had worked up to build this farm all by himself. This guy was doing O.K. He hadn't heard from anyone but Dorothy who saw his airfield every time she rode her regular flight. Hdawant- ed me to stay a few weeks so we could go big game hunting on his private range but time was running out and I was eager to get at my new Job with Douglas so I said good-bye and left for Los Angeles. r Well, that takes care of the senior class of 1954. Seems to me they're all doing pretty well for themselves, but this younger generation is still going to the dogs. Junior-Senior Banquet The annual Jun1oreScn1or banquet was held Monday even- ing, May 3, in the Granite Boom at Ortonville. Each guest was greeted at the door by his hosts, the Juniors, and The theme peice of the cense. The weather was warm and sunny and the auditorium was packed for both sessions. In the first game the Midgets took.on Peever. It was a well played game but the Midgets gradually pulled away to win easily by the score of 61 to 47. DISTRICT TOURNAMENT I On February 25, 26, and 27 the district ttournament was held at Sisseton. For once the weather was fair. The Corona Midgets had some tough luck in their ahooting and wound up playing Wilmot for the 7th and Bth place. Corona won this game 74 to 59. In the first game the Midgets played Summit and lost by two points in an overtime. The score was 65 to 65 aft- er four quarters. Summit scored two points in 'Ethe over- time to win 65 to 671' In their second game the Midgets lost to Hosholt by the score of 48 to 57. The game was much closer than the score indicates. The Midgets led at the half but fell short the last two periods. ' BASKETBALL PROSPECTS The basketball prospects for the 1954-55 season are bright with the return of eight lettermen. The -returns are Paul Jordre, Terry Jordre, Gerald Miller, Robert Trapp Larry Ferber, Dale Buttke, David De Boer, Lloyd Fenhaus, and Donald Schultz. Others who show promise and should be a great help are Lloyd Hooth, Duane Steege, Gerald Bowers, and Billy Rell. There is also some promising material coming up from the grade team. Naturally the loss of such fine players as Ralph See- hafer, Glen Zeigler, and Billy Wilde will be greatly felt. We are all looking forward to next season. 5 Ff !lQ ' 01 -' -0N '-f- fxll-s : S 'vw V'c - 5-no-v-'1'6 3- '7 if 4.3 C D' Q XL -Q 'fav 1.36.2 69 M f..,,:' 5? 1.56 Cijx' GRADE ' CHEERLEADERS Dorene Fenhaua Marilyn Miller Gloria Peters GRADE TEAM Standing L. to R. James Jordre left at five o'clock and checked in at the swanky Curtis Hotel. Then they visited the Foshay Tower and the Cedric Adams Noontime News at WCCO. After dinner they crossed the Mississippi River into St. Paul to visit the capitol building and the two famous museums. Some of the most interesting articles in the museum were an Egyp- tian mummy and some shrunken heads of humane. After this interesting visit, they went out to the Wold Chamberlain Airport and spent about two hours watching transports and Jets take off and land. After supper we lounged around in our lovely hotel rooms until it was time to go to the ice follies. After a late Saturday dinner we started back to Corona and six tired but happy individuals were taked to their homes by their releived superintendent. We arrived home about 7 o'cloek and we all had Hthe time of our llvesn. BASKETBALL BANQUET Members of the basketball team, teachers, and cheere- leaders were guests Tuesday, April 6, at a six o'clook banquet served by mothers of the basketball squad. Superintendent James Jordre was toastmaster for'Ljhe evening. There was no planned program, but everyone present was called on for an impromptu speech. Banquet tables, arranged in an open square, were dov- ered with white paper and had purple and gold streamers down the middle. There were purple and gold nut cups. The purple place cards were in the shape of a basketball, with the gold letters C.H.S. on them. In the center of the square f0Pmed by the tables was the trophy won at the Wilmot Invitational and a little basketball with C.H.Sf on it. , A The mothers of the Squad and the cheerleaders worked hard to prepare a fine chicken dinner which was apprec- iated by those present. After the banquet the young peg- ple left and the mothers remained to do the dishes, INSIGNIFICANT FACTS ABOUT SIGNIFICANT PEOPLE Girl most likely to succeed... Boys most likely to succeed...
