A thousand, more or less, said Mrs. Arnold grinningly as she reflected on her years as sponsor of the Welfare Committee. This committee, which was started long ago by an English class, now consists of Senior Home¬ making students and meets during Orientation periods. The year ' s monthly welfare projects started with a September collection for the ASB Emergency Fund, and ended with May ' s Cancer Fund Drive. At Christmas, the committee organized the adoption of twenty-seven families in the community. Among other projects, the committee also sent two educational kits to Viet Nam, collected for Heart disease. Cancer, the Blind and Crippled. 194 HI-TRI The three-pointed Hi—Tri emblem symbolizes the club ' s goal of individual improvement mentally, physically and spiritually. Although Hi—Tri is a hard-working community service club, they have lots of fun, too, as their year ' s program shows. Among the activities listed on their agenda wa s the Party for the School of the Deaf, Christmas Ball sponsorship, a tour of Sunkist Lemon Ex¬ change, and a speaker having E.S.P. Among others, the Coronettes competed at the San Bernardino Christmas Parade winning a third place, the Rialto Christmas Parade where they also won a third, the Orange Show Parade, and the Saint Patricks Day ' s Parade. Vive la France might well be the motto of this well-known club. The members are sincerely interested in studying the French language and customs. Ideally they would hope to visit France since they realize that the best way to become acquainted with the French way of life is actually to live it. They have a realistic solution to this, though. They have created a microcosm within CHS with French atmosphere, customs, and speech. And, voila, the French Club. Although the Corona chapter of this organization functions quietly up in the distant agriculture building, their relative unceasing involvement in club activities is astounding. Attending a complex schedule of fairs and other competitions, the Corona Agricultural group is quite famous for their set-up and is used as a model by UCR Agriculture students. Among the outstanding individuals in this area were Jack Cox, owner of the champion angus steer of the Riverside County Fair, Jeanine Lamkin, owner of a grand champion lamb at the L.A. Champion Fair, and Irwin Gisler, owner of the champion heifer of the Indio Fair. ASB BALL Careful, Joel! If people weren ' t dancing, they were sitting at their tables talking or eating. Saturday night, April 16, the ASB Ball was held off campus in the Stirrup Room of the Hickory Bar-B-Que. The theme, Spring Fantasy, was an effective blend of oriental branches decorated with large blossoms suspended on the walls, large scandanavian planters placed around the room, white Victorian garden furniture, and the accent of large big-top canopy over the entrance. Small tables with center pieces of large paper blossoms, seating one to two couples, were arranged around the dance floor. Music, furnished by The Rogues created a spring time atmosphere. Hors d-oeuvres of mush¬ rooms, caviar, anchovies and imported cheeses were served. ASB CONVENTION A suggestion, a petition, an election, an amendment to the ASB Constitution, and a lot of hard work on the part of the executive council made the nominating conventiona reality. Delegates were elected in orientation classes and were sent to the convention to vote as orientation classes de¬ sired. President, Ace Waggoner, and Principal, Mr. Donohue, welcomed the delegates, candidates, campaign managers and visitors. Throughout the day there were many caucas periods and wild throwing of confetti. Following several votings all but two candidates were eliminated for each office. These candidates were voted on by the student body the following week. Refreshments, made by Sr. Homemaking students, was served in the Star Room. OPEN HOUSE The science room . . .Mr. Price? Open House was a wonderful chance for all the parents to see how their children were doing in school. Pantherettes handed out programs and served as guides to parents in seeking the educational haven of their children. Sam Lunetta busy at work in the art room. ASB officers preside over the Nominating Con¬ vention . Amidst cheers, confetti, and laughter, a nomination was made. The first concert of combined vocal and instrumental departments, presented Friday night, May 20, was well received and thoroughly enjoyed. Vocal groups included the A Cappella Choir, Girls ' Glee, Boys ' Glee, Madrigal Singers, and soloists, Karen McWi lliams, Terry Taylor, and Mark Siegers. The instrumental groups included the Concert Band, Percussion ensemble. Stage Band, and student directors, Randy Bane and Peter Schwartz . Some of the highlights of the program included the retaping of Creation because a fuse blew up, the little man (the recording mechanic) running around adjusting the microphones and apologizing for the interruption by saying sorry ' bout that..., the extremely enthralling percussion ensemble, Terry Taylor ' s humble but haphazard bow following a solo, and the three and a half hour long marathon marvelously accepted by both the musical department and the audience. Congratulations to both Mr. Halperin and Mr. Rickson, (and the little recording Man) ! !! All stand at attention, as queen Glorianna, Regina Biggers, makes her entrance. SPRING CONCERT Hi SENIOR THING The Senior Thing this year was basi¬ cally the same idea as The Senior Hootenanny was in the pas t two years. The senior class felt that this talent show , of sorts, shouldn ' t be limited to just folk singers. By calling it the Senior Thing, such acts as The Tomb¬ stone Blues , a popular folk rock band here in town, Tim Monich brothers, small skits, and, of course, the ever- leading folk singers, themselves, were able to perform and provide an atmos¬ phere of friendly, casual relaxation. All in all the Senior Thing made for an interesting and entertaining night away from home, or the Del . Bet you didn ' t know Panthers were so talented! Spring Concert . . . Steve Underwood receives baseball award from Coach Thompson at the general awards assem¬ bly . Will Panthers ever forget The Mouse That Roared? Corona High Masquers produced and performed this two act play to students, faculty, and parents May 25 and 26. The Wednesday night performance proved to be uproariously funny. After the first scene, scenery was in need of repair. It took quite awhile, so the audience cheered on Betsy Monich, who finally stood up from the audience and sang Second Hand Rose . The play resumed once again, with ad-libs right and left. The audience was literally in the aisles. The Thursday night performance started with fate on its side. Count Mountjoy, better known around campus as Tim Monich, suddenly developed laryngitis right before show time. The cast had him backstage eating lemons, gargling salt water, and drinking fruit punch. Scenery began to shake and rattle as Regina Biggers, playing the role of Gloriana the 12th, High ruler of Grand Fenwick, frantically tried completing an exit by pulling on a door, instead of pushing. All in all it was completely successful and truly a highlight of the 1965-66 year. Sponsors were Mr. Newmann, and Mr. Blankenship. Student director was Phil Weisbeck and prompter, Suzanne Duncan.
