Foreword Come sail with the Coronal 1958 as it sails over the turbulent main of sports, the rugged channels of administration, the pulsing Pacific of gaiety. Throughout this cruise we hope that the glories which have founded these activities will not be obscured. How thrilling it is to see white folds of canvas whipped into refuge behind 4 ■ the breakwater which, like a protective sea monster, lies curled on the waves. Here our ship strains and tugs at its anchor to be free once more. Students driven by the restless winds of desire are also chaffing to leave the home port — like the yacht they seem carefree, light, gay, and colorful as they emerge on the chopping sea. Yet under the veneer of sophistica- tion, this gay abandon typified by the lithesome yacht, there is a thorough preparation of character gleaned throughout a long stay in home port, where they acquired tools with which to meet the world. Twilight envelopes all in a cloak of rosy hue; tinted clouds are draped over majestic mountains of mauve. Darkness falls and lights appear; the bells of the night watch break the shimmering bubble of our dream. And so it is this, as well as the accomplishments of the year, that we want you to catch as the pages of this, the 1958 Coronal, unfurl. 2

Dedication As we graduate from high school and look back over the years we remember an under- standing, jolly and sympathetic man who was always willing to give his time and energy to help us with our problems. In appreciation of this fine teacher’s love and interest for young people we want to dedicate the 1958 volume of the Coronal to Leo A. Pauly.
