His friendliness and un- derstanding has made him a friend to all. He has strength- ened Corona High by his out- standing service and loyalty. Our deep gratitude and thanks goes to C. With a new director, Richard Becker, and smart new uniforms the Band has been rated as one of the top bands of Southern California. This year the band won a second place at the Long Beach All Western Band Review and a superior rating at the district contest in Redlands. To help promote school spirit they played at all of C.H.S. ’s football games, pep rallys and home basketball games. To keep up the team ' s morale. Corona Rooters were in attendance at all our home- and-on-the-road football and basketball games. Many times they outnumbered the host team ' s rooters indicating that Corona has some of the best school spirit in the TCL as well as a few championships. Three bus- loads of rooters once traveled over a hun- dred miles to Chula Vista to support our Panthers in the opening game of the C.I.F. play-offs. The second round of play proved less fruitful and the Panthers ended up in third place — but they had broken a precedent, and won more games than they lost, 6 wins, 4 losses in league play and an overall record of 14 wins and 10 losses — a welcome change for Corona Cage fans. The B team showed potentiality, but started slow in the TCL race. However a mid season drive brought them within striking distance of the title. They dropped their last game to Bonita but ended in a deadlock with them for second position in the B division. Their record in league play was 6 and 4. For the season they won 12 and lost 10 . The C team turned in a fine record winning 5 and losing 5 in league play and 6 to 8 for the season. COURTESY MARKET 619 W. Sixth Phone 322 153 Sept. 14 — This year we hope to see and meet a lot of old and new faces. Once again the halls of C.H.S. were filled with the delightful faces of our beloved seniors, the run-of-the-mill faces of the juniors and as usual the scrawny, undescribable faces of the sophomores. Sept. 18 — We played our first football game with Hart High. Ole lady luck ' didn ' t shine on us that night. Sept. 22 — Hi-Tri held a get acquainted night, oh yes, dear diary, there sure were lots of new faces. Sept. 25 — To raise the spirits for the Garden Grove game we had a Car Parade. The town was really spin- ning when we got through. Oct. 1 — Today we had our first National Assembly. There were faces pushed and pulled around. Of course, dear diary, it was all in clay. Oct. 31 — Golly, we sure had fun at the Halloween Dance and Talent Show. Everyone had a different face. Nov. 7 — G.A.A. had its first playday. They really hit the jack-pot. Nov. 1 3 — Oh, dear diary, the most wonderful thing happened to us. We won the T.C.L. Championship. Prayers were answered. We were on pins and needles until we found out who would get Miss Football. Gee, Donna was so thrilled. Nov. 14 — It was sure fun meeting all those kids at the Tri-County Dance. Nov. 16 — Now let ' s see, what happened today — oh, yes the Coronal Assembly was held in the auditorium. Dec. 5 Murder at C.H.S.! That s what happened in one of the Lemonville plays. Afterwards everyone walked through the door into a make-believe Sherwood Forest. Dec. 1 9 — Our first formal dance was the Christmas Ball. We sure had fun gather- ing together to get in the Yultetide Spirit. Jan. 15 — No doubt C.H.S. will long remember such faces, in the Senior Class Assembly, as The Four Ices, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Devils and also Margies flop. Feb. 4 — Oh, my dear little diary, all the faces we saw today looked so-o-o-o, well shall we say miserable. I wonder if it could have had anything to do with report cards coming out? Feb.9 — Today some of the kids had a little stage fright because it was the Coronal efection assembly. Also, dear diary, Joe Lanzarotta became the father of a brand new bouncing baby boy. Feb. 14 — Now, let me see, oh yes, lil ' diary the most important face tonight was Mr. Cupid ' s. ' ' Everyone was so in love at the Quill Scroll dance. Feb. 23 — Tonight we treated our Pops to a great big dinner and really stuffed them. This was the annual Hi-Tri Pop ' s Banquet. March 1 — Tennis, track and baseball started today. March 5 — The run-of-the-mill faces were seen trying desperately to put on the Junior Assembly. It was real 1 gone ! March 20 — Tonight was one of the biggest events of the year. It was the night of the crowning of our Hi-Jinx Queen. Norma looked like the happiest girl alive. April 9 — Well, dear diary, this was women ' s night out and us girls took advan- tage of this here fact. The occasion, was, of course, the Sadie Hawkins Dance. April 23 — Just think, today they held the Tri-County League Track Finals. May 1 — Today the C.H.S. Band invaded Pomona College to participate in the State finals of the California Concert Association Contest. May 8 — Bright and early this morning the band began a long journey to Na- tional City to march in the Maytime Band Review. May 14 — J. Lorin Farmer has been working long hours with the Glee Club. The time and effort expended was evident at the annual Music Festival. May 28 Dear diary, I only wish I had the room to tell of all the wonderful things that went together to make a sensational Junior-Senior Prom. June 10 — Tonighi the Seniors ' faces really beamed as they received their dif- ferent awards. June 11 — Another memory has been added to our book tonight. That Senior Banquet was great and the food was super. June 13 — My heavens, it seems as though the seniors just go, go, go all the time. Tonight the Baccalaureate Services were held. The end is drawing near. j une 16 — The end is here. The end of twelve years full of lots of fun, making friends and getting an education. Graduation is supposed to be a joyous occasion, but as usual it was a little sad as we thought of all the faces we wouldn ' t be seeing next year. We realize though, that this is not an end, but just a new beginning. 158 _ This space is reserved for me as editor so that I may hand out orchids and tell you that we hope you ' ve en- joyed the book. As a staff we have had fun working on the CORONAL. But like every staff there have been a few problems — such as the nice rain storms we had when we were trying to take the sports pictures. Ask Karen or George, they ' ve suffered most with this item. The poor typists, Willie, Yvonne, and Roberta, had their difficulties too; they never could seem to read our writ- ing. Of course our photographer, Rudy Ramos, was plagued because his flash camera never seemed to work at the right time. When the going really got tough, Marj always seemed to be around to smooth things out Who ' s who at CHS ' ' — Sal and ' Homer had a “crazy’ ' time trying to figure that one out. But we were lucky enough to have an artist with an imagination - on the staff; Dot did a wonderful job. But as you can see we finally made it and my heartfelt thanks goes to all of the staff and advisor, Joe Lanzarotta. They did a swell job. But now it ' s time to close our book — the faces of ' 54 are gently fading away.
