ophomore earns money unnin his own business Trying to find a part time job is one problem many teenagers encounter, but lt's no problem for sophomore Stuart Neal. He's been working at his present job for about three years and has one advantage over the typical student employee. Stuart is his own boss. Since the age of twelve, he has run his own lawn mowing business, and he now works an average of sixty hours per week. I got started by sending flyers out to houses in my area offering to take care of people's animals while they went on vacation during the summer, said Stuart. ln addition to taking care of the animals, several of Stuart's first customers decided to have him mow their lawns. Soon Stuart was doing many of these lawns on a regular basis. By the end of his first year he had enough customers to limit his business to lawn mowing and yard work. At first Stuart didn't even have a mower. He bought a used push mower to get him through his first year. The addition of many new customers made it necessary for him to buy a used riding mower during his second season, and last summer he purchased a new riding mower. Stuart now operates three rid- ing mowers, five push mowers, three weedeaters and a rototil- Ier. Stuart's first clientele, consisting of ten customers, has expanded to about 45 regular customers. He also does other temporary odd jobs. Things were pretty slow at first, but l gradually gained more customers and earned enough money to expand my busi- ness, Stuart said. The lawn mowing season lasts from April until November. During the winter he does odd jobs such as rototilling, weeding and irrigating. O... Board sefs new policies on eduoafion about sex The teaching of sex education in schools has been a contro- ersial subject nation wide. Debate continues on how, and if, he subject should be handled. The increasing number of pregnant teens has influenced ome people to believe there is a need for sex education in high school. Other people believe that the duty of informing the hildren belongs to the parents, but a survey taken in the human relations classes last year revealed that only one or two tudents in each class had discussed sex with their parents. After studying a survey of students, parents and teachers hroughout the district, the Board of Education has set new policies this year concerning sex education. According to the policy, the Board believes that the primary responsibility for education about human sexuality rests with home and religious institutions. The policy also states that while the schools should include a of sexual education, the preparation of the program involve the home, school and religious community.CL.
