Besides being a relative of Olympic track star Jesse Owens, Dennis' father Ossie took state in the 400 in 1953-54 at South High School. Even with someone as famous as Jesse Owens in the family, Dennis was influenced more to participate in track by his father. Last year Dennis placed fourth in the state in his specialty, the long jump, with a school record leap of twenty feet, 10 inches. But there is always room for improvement. l'm hoping to get 25 feet this year. Lamont King helped me with my technique and l'm already improving, Dennis said. Right now Dennis is hoping for a scholarship in either track orfootball. By '84 l'll be a freshman in college and l'm hoping to goto the Olympics, said Dennis. Aside from the long jump, Dennis also runs the 100 and 200 yard dashes and hopes to make it to the Olympics in at least one of these events. Cl.. 1 1
