With a grade point average of 3.6, Sandy is in the top ten percent of her class. She has taken several courses in the honors program and has been nomi- nated forthe National Honor Society. Sandy was nominated for Sophomore of the Year by Corona's faculty and staff. She then attended a Hugh O'Brien leadership workshop. A cheerleader all through high school, Sandy was chosen as this year's captain of the varsity cheer line. She also led the junior varsity cheer line her sophomore year and the freshman line two years ago. Another of Sandy's interests is softball. She first started playing with Tempe Parks and Recreation seven years ago, and has played first and second base with Corona's team for three years, earning her two letters. After her graduation next year, Sandy plans to either take accounting at ASU or attend a veterinary school. O... JUNIORS 149

Junior uses free time as hospital volunteer For the last year and a half, Angela Lewis has used her spare time to work as a volunteer at Tempe Com- munity Hospital. Angela first learned about the program, called Junior Auxiliary, through her Girl Scout activities. She and several other Corona students, sophomores Devaree Peshall, Jennifer Regan and Mindy Close, work at the hospital an average of three days a week. lt's a good way to find out if medicine is what you want to go into, Angela said. lt'll also help when I need references for a job. Angela's duties at the hospital include running errands, delivering specimens, bringing things to the patients and doing things for the doctors. She is currently president of Junior Auxiliary and helps to train new volunteers. Angela's schedule is a hectic one. Besides her activi- ties at the hospital, she is an oboe and piccolo player in the varsity band, she is active in her church choral and instrumental groups, and she is responsible for helping to care for the rest of her family, which includes six chil- dren and one foster child.
