L X f The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, CPSATJ, was taken by more than one million high school stu- dents in 1980. lt is a multiple choice test measuring ver- bal and mathematical abilities. The PSAT is taken by most students in their junior year. lt is considered a preview for the Scholastic Apti- tude Test, QSATD, which is usually taken as a senior. The PSAT scores can be used to determine how stu- dents will probably perform on the SAT, The test also shows how a student ranks among jun- iors across the country in both math and English. The scores are compared nationally with students who plan to enter college. This year the test was given on October 21 and Octo- 25 A fee of 353.75 was charged to help cover local for administering the test. The PSAT was developed and administered for the Board by the Educational Testing Service. Students who do well on this test have their scores to other programs such as the National Merit Corporation, CNMSCJ. Students with the scores may qualify to participate in a nation- competition sponsored by NMSC, in which many scholarships are offered.
