Sfudenf Council sponsors firsf Homeoomin Pep rallies, Homecoming, a new school spirit program and orange and yellow days were among the activities sponsored by the student council this year, The student council is the center of student government at Corona, said Larry Campbell, sponsor. We provide social and educational activities for the student body, he said. Other responsibilities of the student council were to charter any new clubs and approve all activities sponsored by any organization, such as dances or candy sales. Chess olub oompefes locally, while new club builds airplane While others were eating their lunch, the Chess club was meeting with sponsor Mike Wehrli, practicing for their chess tournaments. The club played a tourna- ment once a week against other schools including McClintock, Marcos de Niza, and Tempe High. This year the Chess club went to the state finals with their varsity team, which consists of five members. The rest are members of the J.V. team.
