3 Freshman Eric Luesebrink struggles up the hot and dusty hill. He reaches the top and starts down towards the finish. Luesebrink lengthens his stride and sprints in to a fifth place finish in the freshman race at the Sea View League finals. The frosh-soph team raced to a fine season, while the junior varsity struggled to field a team. The junior varsity was led by Senior Regan Sarwas and junior Eric Norris. Sophomore Mark Borg ran several fine races, with a best time of 17:40. But, it was the freshmen team that shone, winning the Sea View League title on a grueling 2 mile course. The freshmen were led by Eric Luesebrink, Craig Martin, Roy Hobbs, and Ian Van Hoven. With such a successful year, the freshmen team's prospects are bright for the future. boys' cross-country 231

1' ing year for sea king football The huddle breaks and the tension is rolling, with the score still at 0-0, late in the third quarter. The ball is snapped to Corky Carpenter, then pitched to Lance Martin. The defense comes rushing up, Martin sets up and throws the ball to wide open receiver jeff Lasor for a touchdown. After three pre-season losses, the Sea Kings won their first league game against rival Estancia, 23-7. The next two weeks the Sea Kings went up against two brutalizing teams, losing to Saddleback, 0-21, and El Toro, 0-21. The following week Lance Martin set a school record of 206 yards, which resulted in a 13-0 shut out, against the Irvine Vaquaros. The next game the Sea Kings squashed the Toads from Costa Mesa, 7-3, but lost the following week to the Trojans from University, 7-12. Although their future looked dim, the Sea Kings still had a chance for the C.l.F. playoffs against Newport Harbor. During the third quarter, quarterback Paul Watson threw a great 50-yard touchdown pass to receiver Don Pryor for a 7-7 tie, but finally lost to the Sailors, 7-21.
