Throughout the race, Anderson coaches Ortiz to keep up. They cross the line together in first place, trying unsuccessfully to defeat Costa Mesa. This year's varsity cross-country team had a season of ups and downs. The Sea Kings ended up with a 2-5 record in the Sea View League and failed to qualify for CIF despite some excellent efforts. Anderson captured the No. 1 junior spot at the Orange County Championships and won the league title. In CIF, he placed. Also leading the team were three sophomores, Dar- ren Woods, Lance Ortiz, and Danny Holland, who shone with best times of 16:06, 16:23, and 16:40 respectively.
