The teams stay neck and neck through overtime. With only four seconds left, Dave VanSteenhuyse scores with a 15-foot jumper to give CdM the 58-56 win. The Varsity team, with a 11-3 league record, shared the Sea View League Crown with Estancia. CdM entered the CIF playoffs for the 11th consecutive year. In the first round, they slaughtered Rowland High 64-49, but fell to Cerritos in the final seconds, 57- 55. Dave VanSteenhuyse, Greg Wynn and Mike Hess led the team in scoring, while Karl Wolff led in rebounds. 22 The junior varsity team kept up the tradition of having an exceptional season, with an overall season record of 16-5. Losses to Irvine and El Toro were both by one point in the final seconds. The junior varsity players can boast both victories over Newport Harbor. Throughout the season, many players were moved up to varsity: Peter Stoughton, Matt Schonert, Don Pryor lwith four games left in the seasonb, Ray Zaradnik lwith two games left in the seasonb.
