The teams stay neck and neck through overtime. With only four seconds left, Dave VanSteenhuyse scores with a 15-foot jumper to give CdM the 58-56 win. The Varsity team, with a 11-3 league record, shared the Sea View League Crown with Estancia. CdM entered the CIF playoffs for the 11th consecutive year. In the first round, they slaughtered Rowland High 64-49, but fell to Cerritos in the final seconds, 57- 55. Dave VanSteenhuyse, Greg Wynn and Mike Hess led the team in scoring, while Karl Wolff led in rebounds. Both the IV and FroshfSoph baseball teams were guided this year by new coaches. The lV's, coached by Russell King, opened their pre-season games against Mission Viejo with a 8-2 oss. Ben Boyer, Kurt Ciuisness, jeff Prechel and Rob Stefano, returning from last year's squad, gave outstanding efforts against a tough Mission Viejo team. Team members have high hopes of winning the League title back from Saddleback, who won last year. The FroshfSoph team, under Coach Riddel, felt their strongest point was in the pitching. The team lost their pre-season ame against Mission Viejo, 9-6. Outstanding pfayers in that game were Steve Chabre, Doug Cireen, Kevin McLaughlin, Dan Stefano and Sean Turner. When asked what was beneficial about participating on this year's FroshfSoph squad, one team member stated, lt's a ood experience for getting prepared for Varsity Easeball. We improve throughout the season, primarily in base running and unity by learning from our mistakes. 5 In their pre-season game against Mission Viejo, FroshfSoph team members 1.
