The 1983 Corona del Mar girls' track team headed toward CIF finals with unprecedented support by its members. Athletes returning from last season included Tracy Evans, Kelly Graham, Lori Gustafson, jane Harano, Anne Hilbert, Carolyn johnson, joan Loos, Michelle Moter, Leslie VanDell, and jennifer Yates. This year's track team was strongly supported by the field events with Lori Gustafson at the helm, and the mile relay with Tracy Evans, Michelle Moter, Kelly Graham, and newcomer Shannon Loudermilk. 2 g 4 5 1. jennifer O'Kieffe and Kerry O'Heany stretch out before a wor- kout. 2. I 214 girls' volleyball I 2 Spiking to victory Setter Leslie Pittman floats a perfect ball high to the left side of the court. Pam Lawrence leaps and extends her arm. The ball spins off her hand and slams into the opposite court. Another point for the Sea Queens means another victory for this year's winning team. Undefeated and unchallenged in league play against teams such as Newport Harbor, University, and Irvine, the girls were coached by Harold Noriega and led by the play of Pam Lawrence and Brooke Herrington. These two spikers were backed up by setters Ilene Hess, Leslie Pittman, Kara MCC-uinness, Mary Ann Muller, and Cammie Doder. After clinching the Sea View League title by beating Newport Harbor, the Sea Queens earned a berth in the CIF play-offs. In the first two rounds, the team trounced Ocean View in three straight games and defeated St. Ioseph's in four games. The Sea Queens then defeated Santa Monica and advanced to CIF semi-final play, where the girls downed Laguna to reach the finals. Against a tough Mira Costa team, the girls lost in a hard- fought match which rounded out a spectacular season.
