Softball on deck in '83 The varsity girls' softball team looks to be an improvement over years past. Led by new coach Mary Becket and returning starters Ilene Hess, Angie Dodds, Karen Kolstad, Lisa Romney, and Kim Valentine, the team beat rival Newport Harbor 11-4. Newcomers Amy Conoway, Lynn Etkins, Kristi Coale, Heather Estey, and Nell Killefer added much to the Sea Queen line-up. The girls' IV squad, under new coach Ted Williams, worked hard to add continuity to their game. The team was especially strong in individual medleys and sprints. Last yea they received an honorable mention from the National interscholastic Swim Coaches Associatio in team relay. The team was led by many of last year's returningm champions such as junior Michele Bird and Sop omores Amy Reinhold and Stacy Skeie. Michele and Amy are National competitors, working out with the United States Swimming Team. Both made CIF, each receiving second place in two individual events. Michele qualified for All-American in the 100-yard freestyle relay. Stacy Skeie made CIF in the 400 yard freestyle as freshman. According to Senior swimmer Linda Robb, the new freshmen have depth. She believes that the team has a good chance of reaching their goal this year.
