C? . W 3 It is a Friday afternoon and members of Symphonic Band are playing scales for their weekly grade. After playing scales they begin practicing for upcoming performances. This year the music is more limited due to the skill levels of its members. The diversity in playing ability results from combining Beginning Band and Symphonic Band. During the year members of Symphonic Band practiced diligently under the direction of Mr. Harry Corea. Some tried to master their instruments while others sharpened their skills all in preparation for the five concerts 1 in which they participated. 1. Debbie Stewart plays a scale for her weekly grade. 2. Tom Boat concentrates on his music as Frank Padilla plays for Mr. Corea, 3. Dean Fulton practices for the upcoming Winter Concert. 4. Eric Holm- gren looks on as Chris Garn warms up. 5. Mr. Corea leads the Symphonic Band to the gym for a school performance. 6. After playing his weekly scale, Tim Cas- sutt relaxes. 7. Marc Stewart, trombone in hand, and Eric Holmgren, tuba propped on shoulder, walk out with the other members of Symphonic Band to take their yearbook picture. 8. Dance the night away Orchesis was off to a brand new start this year with a new advisor, Carol Stockmeyer, and 20 dancers only 3 of which had been in Orchesis before. In spite of their inexperience, these 20 girls went on to create unique dances and perfect their techniques. They danced to a wide variety of music from classical concert arrangements to the latest hits. All of the dances were choreographed by girls in Orchesis. Orchesis performed in the PTA Home Tour, participated in the Annual Choreographers Winter Concert in which Jeanne Grantham won an Outstanding Performance Award, presented their spring production with the theme of emotions, and appeared at several other events. 136 orchesis 1 Front row: Missy Yank, jennifer Hughes, Lisa Horowitz, Megan Griswold, Annette Askari, Kim McGuinnes, Michelle Abajian, Leslie Ramsey.
