WlLBUR T. MILLER Principal The philosophy of our school states in part that the atmosphere of Corning Free Academy is notable for certain distinctive features, chief among which is the simple assumption that everyone will do the right thing, and there is, first of all, a marked friendliness. Students and faculty are proud of these two true state- ments and what they mean to our school and our community. The principalship of Corning Free Academy is an honor and a pleasure be- cause you students live up to this philosophy. The faculty of the school expects you to con- tinue always to live up to the high ideals which have characterized the curricular and extracur- ricular teachings of Corning Free Academy. A Code of Ethics tor the C.F.A. students was the highlight ofthe year's work. It was drawn up by the council, aided by the student body, and presented to the students for approval in an assembly. It is hoped that each C.F.A. student will make this his personal code for living. Have you noticed any improvement in the appearance ot our school and the grounds? We hope so. This was the goal of the Council Clean-Up Campaign for Corning Free Academy. Did you enioy the exchange of school assemblies? This was the result of the Tri-Student Council. A special vote of thanks to Mrs. Kresge, the patient and extremely helpful advisor of the Student Council. OFFICERS: Vice-President, R. Graham, Treasurer, K. Bruner, President, D. Levanfovich. During this school year a new code of honor for athletes was introduced in an assembly to students at C.F.A. This code is known as the Corning Free Academy Athletic Code. A committee of students in grades 9-I2, teachers, coaches, members of the school board, members of the PTA and others formulated this code which is a basis of conduct for our athletes. The main function of the Committee is to serve as a jury to try those who have broken the Code. CORNING FREE ACADEMY ATHLETIC CODE I am proud of my responsibility as a member of a team representing Corning Free Academy and I shall try to the best of my ability to compete by this code. I. For the very suc- cessful football season, the cheerleaders chose the traditional white skirts and blue sweaters, with white beanies and saddle shoes to round out their costumes. For the fast-moving basketball season the cheerleaders were decked out in blue dresses with white striped mandarin collars and sleeves, and spanking white sneakers to complete the outfit, As in years past, the cheerleaders sold candy at the basketball games and ran the paper stand on the second floor. This year we, as seniors, have passed through the fourth and final stage of our high school education and look back with great satisfaction at our four happy years in flight. We entered the first stage of our flight in 1955 full of great expectations and slightly scared. We blasted off into flight with the following officers: David Jacoby as President, Donald M. Kosty as Vice-Presi- dent, Sally Parsons as Secretary, and Peter Goliber as Treasurer. To help spark the blast off came the Freshman-Sophomore party which helped us become acquainted with our sophomore companions. In the fall of 1956 we entered our second year in flight. The first stage had been a great success and we were looking forward to another good year a little more sure of ourselves than the year before. Guiding our ship were An- thony Mizzoni as President, John Gorman as Vice-President, Marcia Marty as Secretary, and Peter Goliber as Treasurer. Again the big event of the year was the Freshman-Sophomore get-together. ln 1957 we embarked in the third stage of flight and we elected as our officers, Charles Stebbins as President, John Riesbeck as Vice-President, Sally Parsons as Secretary, and Peter Goliber as Treasurer. The Junior get-together sparked the year into a successful start. Under the guidance of Miss Helen Farr we presented the annual Christmas pageant. ln the spring we passed through the rainbow and made a wish as we saw the pot of gold at its end. This was our Junior Prom entitled Wishing on a Rainbow. A colorful rainbow extended through the semi-solid ceiling, a flowered mural and a rose encrested throne high- lighted the decorations. However, the highlight of the evening was the crowning of Sally Diana as Queen, and Don Levantovich as King. As officers to guide us in our most important fourth stage we chose: Charles Steb- bins again as President, Jack Spaulding as Vice-President, Kathleen Recktenwald as Secretary, and Cyndee Brown as Treasurer. Our magazine sales were a great suc- cess as we topped our goal of 56,000 by almost 5200. Top honors went to Charles Stebbins, Joe Kewley, and Richard Farncomb. ln December we sighted a strange obiect in orbit- The Crystal Ball. This was our Senior Prom. The decorations consisted of a solid ice blue ceiling, a wreath entrance, a blue-lighted Christmas tree, and, of course, the featured crystal ball rotating from the center of the ceiling. ln February we presented our senior play entitled Lost Horizon under the capable leadership of Miss Janet Young. As the end of our flight drew closer, we stopped off at Hershey for a rollicking good time on our senior trip. Just before we made our final landing we all en- ioyed ourselves at our senior banquet, where we spent a pleasant evening dining, dancing, and storing up memories. At last we reached our destination, In blue gowns we slowly walked up the aisle to receive our diplomas, the certificates that will always remind us of four wonderful years of hard work trimmed with indispensable good times. Directing us through the last lap of our journey were our advisors: Miss Clute, chairman, Mr. Fielding, business advisor, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Stowell, Mrs. Lynch, and Mrs. Kresge. f n H ' .gt .1 FRONT ROW: M. ' pam,- Aww: This year the senior class was proud to present Lost Horizon, a dramatic play from James Hilton's novel dramatized by Anne Coulter Martens and Christopher Sergel. lt is the story of a small diverse group of people taken in by a friendly Tibetan Lamasary when their plane was forced to land during a snowstorm. Miss Janet Young directed the tnree-act play with a prologue and epilogue and with two complete casts. Elizabeth Jones and Cora Sue Millard were student directors. The stage crew, consisting of Joseph Kewley, William Cassidy, and Charles Stebbins, was responsible for stage settings and lighting. Make-up was applied by Theater Guild under the direction of Miss Frances Webb. Mr. Rossi conducted the Senior Orchestra during the intermissions.
