Deep in thought The first entering class of 125 students in the fall of 1958 occupied Old School 3, two residence houses converted into the Student Center, and the Business Offices, in addition to the sedate Houghton House which was used as the library. The college soon grew to include the First Street dorm, known as the Perry House, and the Sullivan House, also a girls’ dormitory. 11

Corning Community College was established in 1956 under the supervision of the State University of New York. The college’s aims were then, as they are now, to provide higher education to “all those willing and able to profit thereby, and also to provide guidance and assistance in maturing desirable personal characteristics.”

September, 1963 marked the coming of over 700 students up Spenser Hill to begin the academic year on the new campus, located midst the 600 acres of beautiful, secluded woodland given to the college. The Spring of ’64 saw the completion of the six, totally paid- for buildings which now make up the newest, proudest, and best junior college in the whole country. 12
