One of die few never- to-be-forgotten moments of life is the time of your gradu- ation, the culmination of long years of preparation, and the pivotal point of new pursuits. Your college years have been most important to me for during this time you have undoubtedly gained greater Christian maturity, explored and claimed greater breadths intellectually, and experienced more enrichment socially than at any other comparable time of life. These years, now climaxed in graduation, are the key for lifelong service. May the disciplines you have gained, especially your knowledge of Godās Word, your experience in Christian service, and the Christian love you have learned to share with others enable you now to demonstrate genuine Bi- blical Christianity by both lip and life until our Lordās return. Come back to visit us often. The words of the beloved dis- ciple, John, seem so appropriate, āI have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.ā President W. WILBERT WELCH, Ph. D. u Lonely and alienated while working in busy cities and living in crowded rooms, men cry for love. In moments of compassion we hurriedly and somewhat timidly whisper, āGod loves you.ā Lonely and alienated while attending a Christian college and worshipping in a Bible-believing church, we cry out for love, and wish that someone standing witli God and looking us in the eye would dare to say, ā1 love you, I am concerned.ā Troubled by a paucity of love in our Christian community we question its advantages and doubt its profession until we are reminded that we have tire distinct privilege of knowing Godās redeeming love. Secure in his love. He becomes our example as well as redeemer. āBeloved, if God so loved us, we ought to love one an- other.ā I John 4:11. Taking the initiative, removing prob- lems, learning to share, we seek to create a community of believers about whom it can be said, āBehold how they love one another.ā 11 the book of Philippiam we find 1 nil's instruction that we have āthe mind of Christ.ā Hie highest quality of this mind is love. This dimension must characterize any community that names the name of Christ, tarve must be the quality that guides the interpersonal relationships of the in- dividuals within the community. This is the natural result of a commitment to Jesus Christ and fulfills the ulti- mate command of Godālove of God, self, and all others. The outworking in personal behavior is found in re- spect and service to others. There is involved in this a measure of humil- ity and the willingness to put the needs ef others in another category that last. Christ said. āHe who would lie first shall be last.ā L.ove is service to, respect for, and acceptance of all individuals in and outside of the community. Vice-President WARREN FABER, Ph. Outside of the number of entertainors which were brought in, various groups from within the college performed for the public and students alike. Among these were such groups as tire Wind Ensamble, the Women's Chorus, and the Chorale At a reception held in honor of Dennis Moffat the Kumi-Ori staff asked him to say a few words concerning the Chris- tianās responsibility toward professionalism in the Arts. ā1 feel that Christians should support the Arts . . . but in doing so the Christian must be better than the world in his performance. 1 also feel that if I do not use my talents to the best of my ability then the Lord will lake them from me. 37 FOURTEENTH ANNUAL SEMINARY BIBLE I I A special day during the week of Bible Conference this year was Dr. Robert T. Ketcham Day. The day was set aside to honor Dr. Ketcham and the ina or role he played in the 1932 separation from the American Baptist Convention. Gary Anderson (Right) is shown making an announcement con- cerning the Robert T. Ketcham award that will be given annualy to the student who has shown the most interest and desire in the area of general Christian Service here at the college. CONFERENCE Another annual event at Bible Con- ference is Alumni Day. Every year the Van Oswald Trophy to an outstanding member of the Alumni Association. This year the pre- sentation was made to Mrs. Victor Mat- thews by the presi- dent of the Alumni Association, Pastor Charles Reed of Fai th Baptist Church, Grand Rapids. 3f MAIN SPEAKERS In dedicating this issue of the Kumi-Ori to loveā, we were interested to sec what other persons thought of āloveā and how it applied to our Christian lives. āThe largest problem we face in the Christian com- munity is love-Iess-ness. This comes about as a result of envy and jealousy. The shameful thing about this love-less-ness is this, we try to compensate for our lack of love with bitterness. We need not dispare however. There is a solution to the problem. The solution is a command John 13: 34-35.ā Dr. David Allen āManās deepest and most agonizing need is love, and the one place surely that it ought to be found is in the fellowship of the sons of God. It is in the society of fellow Christians litat we are to find acceptance, friendship and affectionate concern. It is here that we are to experience the sense of community and oneness that fulfills and satisfies us. It is here that the love of God is to manifested in demonstrable form and the reality of Godās presence made apparent to all who nice, with the. people of God. Love is the one tiling no group of Christians can do without, and if wo have it not we must heed the words of Christ who says: āI have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works: or else I will corne unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Rev. 2:4-5 Dr. John Balyo āThe word love is perhaps the most overworked and abused word in our language today. Most of the worldās concept of the word could better be inter- preted as lust. The unsaved can experience a real hu- man love, as the love of a mother for her child, but only the saved can experience the real love of God, . . . because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us.ā Romans-5:5 If we are filled with the love of God we will be bet- ter citizens and therefore a source of strengthening to the fabric of our society.ā Dr. Fred Brown Dr. David D.
