OUR NEW PRESIDENT DR. W. WILBERT WELCH, Ph.D. STAND THEREFORE, HAVING YOUR LOINS GIRT ABOUT WITH TRUTH” Although we have barely stepped over the threshold of this the new decade, yet already editors have prophetically named it as the fabulous sixties. If great movements have the habit of casting their shadows before them, then indeed the decade be- fore us should be fabulous. Technological advances have been so numerous - satellites, space probes, atomic subs, intercontinental missiles, polio vaccine - until we have been overcome with indifference. In the religious world the movements of the last decade have been even more far reaching than those of science. The religious atomic bomb of compromise was exploded and the great mushroom cloud has now spread over the whole earth. There isn't a church but has come under its shadow. The decade ahead may well be one in which new lines of battle must be drawn and new clear cut positions taken. This is no time for Christian schools to retrench. Our school stands without apology for the historic faith. We do not believe one must sacrifice orthodoxy on the altar of intellectualism - or sacrifice true intelligence in accepting die historical tenets of orthodoxy. In the decade ahead this school may not move with every theological breeze that passes, because it will be deep rooted in the authoritative written and Living Word of God. It shall be dedicated to train- ing young men and women to serve Christ, to stand out against a background of spiritual mediocrity,-to be fervent in the midst of religious lukewarmness, to be courageous when all around the flag of deep- seated conviction is mothballed, and to be God centered in life rather than self centered, or in Paul's words to stand - having the loins girt with truth.
